Why doesnt protein keep me full longer?

Recommended Posts

The past wk or so, I've been increasing my Water and Protein intake, trying to lose the last 10 lbs. I'm not fond of dieting so I thought Id keep that for a last resort. Why do carbs fill me for longer than protein? I thought it was sposed to be the opposite? Has a 5.3 oz container of Fage Greek yogurt for bfast at 8 am this morning. By 10, I coulda eaten my arm. I had 2oz of tuna mixd with a little mayo and sweet pickles. Again, starving by noon. Had a green salad with a cpl ozs of chicken about 1. Again, starving. Oh, and forgot the 4oz of Protein shake with an extra scoop of unfl Protein powder I had about an hr ago. I'm already up to 60gms but literally am starving. Everything sounds good right now

Planning on grilling steak for dinner. That and another salad. That will put me at about 80gms before 6pm. I know Ill be hungry again 2 hrs later.

While I can increae my protein and lower my carbs, why am I not normal in that protein fills most people up better than carbs?

Gawd I hate dieting counting, or wtaching what I eat. Here I sit 1 hr after my Protein Shake (which in itself had about 23gms + what's in the milk) ready to eat anything that walks by. What's the deal? Does protein actually keep u full longer than 2 hrs? Or do I hafta add fat to it 4 it to work?

I'm finding the same thing and I wondered about it too. I am 8 months out and still want to lose 20 more.

I too have been experiencing this; I eat Proteins, I wait 45 minutes to drink, yet within two hours I get hungry. Protein Drinks or Protein Bars last about an hour. I am searching for a Protein that fills me and can satisfy my hunger for at least three hours.

I was having the same issue and my nut recommended only dense Protein and it seems to be working. So no yogurt, no mayo with meats, no salad with meats (too much water). I'm giving it 2-3 months and will then re-evaluate. I still have about 30 lbs to go. So now my meals look more like eggs with a little cheese or sausage for Breakfast, meat with a little Beans (whole not refried), some grilled meat or fish with a little veg for dinner and berries and low fat cheese (I like the lite baby bel) for Snacks.

because it makes your blood sugar go up. if your blood sugar is low, you feel hungry. Protein doesnt make your blood glucose level go up. thats why its good to eat a protein and carb at the same time. make sure you are getting enough Fiber and fat too. many people dont feel satisfied on just protein. (humans evolved to crave a varied diet)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
