Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I got my surgery Thursday and ALL day I have felt weird. I am drinking and not throwing up so nothing is stuck but it feels like something is stuck.

Did you eat anything or have you been sticking to liquids? 4 days post op I was on full liquids so Protein Shakes and broth.

I am only at 7 weeks so no expert by any mean and have not been stuck yet. I do think if you were stuck then you would feel it right away and would not be able to keep liquids down. you may have caused some swelling from eating the mashed potatoes. If you still feel this way in the morning I would suggest contacting your surgeons office.

The weeks after lap band surgery are for healing…and that really means sticking to your doctors orders especially when it comes to diet. Yup, that liquid diet just plain old sucks but it is done for a reason. From how you said it above, it seems that you were a little premature on eating those mashed potatoes.

I would call your doctor in the morning and let them know what you ate and let them be the judge of what is going on...

Please be careful and give your body time to heal…that is what this period is for!

Good luck.

I have heard others say they can feel the band but it seems to be after a fill or being swollen. I have never felt anything except the port. Maybe try some warm tea or sugar free hot chocolate which may bring you some comfort. Hope you feel better.

Thank y'all for the advice. I'm just really uncomfortable and I feel like I can feel the band... Is that even possible?

You're feeling the swelling under the band from eating the potatoes. There are 6-8 sutures securing the part of your stomach that the surgeon pulled up over the band to secure the position of the band. The swelling is normal and can be exasorbated by eating mushy foods at this stage. Go back to your liquid diet and you should be fine. But it's always wise to alert your Dr to any excessive swelling.

The reason they have you on liquids is because of the swelling. It takes time to heal from your surgery and eating the wrong thing at this stage can cause damage to your stoma. If you are still feeling stuck call your surgeon and let them know what you ate and make sure you stay on liquids as long as they prescribed. I know the liquid phase is tough but with any kind of surgery, post op instructions are very important to follow. Best of Luck to you and stay on course you will be so happy you did.

I could "feel my band" for a while after surgery. I think I was pretty swollen inside so I felt "restricted" from day 1. After a couple of weeks, the swelling had gone down and I could eat just about anything without even noticing the band. I think your feeling is normal. Just be sure to stick to your doctor's orders fir what to eat/drink after being banded. It's super important to do what they tell you to do. If it says only Protein Shakes and Jello for a week, then only have that for exactly 1 week. You will be glad you followed the rules in the long run. Good luck! You can do this!

I might add that if the rules are not important now, how will they seem later on. As stated the surgeons make these rules for a reason, if you trusted them to do the surgery, keep trusting them to guide you through this journey.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
