Any tips on nursing an irritated band?

Recommended Posts

I got a fill Friday, had no problems Friday or Saturday eating softer foods and following my rules. Had a rough night last night, which seemed like I could barely swallow my own saliva and I kept burping up vomit tasting acid...ewww! Probably the Hershey Drop I had before bed. (Yeah, bad I know!)

Now today my stomach is VERY irritated. I could barely get down a cup of coffee. I don't want to be rash and run back to my doctors office to remove Fluid. I'm hoping a day of all fluids will calm it down, if I can even manage that. I'm trying a heating pad on my stomach just for good measure.

Anyone experience this, and/or have advice on things I can do to "un" irritate my Band?

hi sounds like you could be too tight , my symptoms were not as bad as yours but had trouble eating even soft things at times and occasionally drinking , I let it go on loner than I should have done but last wed had some Fluid taken out , pain stopped and diet much better , wish I had not left it so long . I think you should at least get advice from your drs office , but sounds like some of your fill may need to be removed ; goodluck and hope things get sorted soon x

Well, the good news of today, is that I have been able to eat some baby food and pudding, and keep it down no problem.

On the flipside, it still feels a bit irritated, but definitely better.

Let's hope I have a better night now, and wake up to little to no agitation at all!

Of course if I do experience more issues, I will give them a call!

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

Usually cold is preferred to reduce swelling. Hockey, football and baseball athletes ICE swollen joints or muscles.

When I get like that it tends to be an acid problem - I take nexium that my doctor/ surgeon prescribes in an oral suspension form but any anti acid might make a difference for you.

been there done that 3 times...if you can eat minimal and soft for numerous days go from there. It does take quite a while for the irritation to go down as you get tighter. But you were just fill so you are irritated from that alone. I would wait it out but be very careful what you eat for numerous days and go from there.

I had to go in and get some out again and i did talk them into only taking out 1 cc at the most but he wouldnt take any less than that out as i was very swollen and dehydrated. After i healed again...i am too loose now again. They are so busy and it takes forever to get in for a fill at this time...have gained 13 lbs since and have stayed there for quite some time. Hate it.

Also embarassed to go in and ask for some more fill as it goes from 1 extreme to another. I feel nothing at all to so tight that i eventually cant even get liquids down??? grrr. It has been 1 year and 9 months and still cant get it set...talk about frstrating.

It could be acid. I've had a lot of those troubles and getting on a daily anti acid has helped me stay with the tight band without getting too tight from irritation. My doctor prescribes nexium in an oral suspension powder you mix with Water so you can get it down even when the band is irritated. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
