I have eaten 70 g of Protein today, around 500 calories and 65 grams of carbs. I got them from Kefir, skim milk etc. Am in taking too many carbs?

No I think your doing goo getting in 70 g of Protein this early on... my NUT said to focus on Water and protein intake do not count carbs and calories right now.

Some would say so based upon the popularity of low carb diets in the weight loss industry and amongst some docs these days, but unless you are carb sensitive or diabetic, there is no particular reason to go to any great effort to minimize carbs beyond what our minimal intake already provides, particularly for relative lightweights like the OP. I was rarely, if ever, as low as 65g and did just fine, as do most of the people in my doc's program which doesn't put any particular emphasis on carb counting. Given our limited intake, quality of the food and nutrition is much more important than carb counts in the long term.

I think that when we follow the rule of Protein first, then veggies, fruit and finally complex carbs, we naturally are eating lower carb simply because we just won't have the room for them. I think where many get into trouble is when they change up that order and carbs are eaten before protein. Most of us need to make a point of being vigilant to these rules. It's so easy to get a little off track and get derailed.

Congrats on your surgery! Hope you're feeling good and continue to heal fast . . .

I think it's a bit confusing for the newly sleeved who are constanly reading about everyone who is much further along post-op always talking about carbs.

Although I cannot speak directly for other bariatric programs than my own, I think most are similar. As you move through the various eating stages until you are back to eating "normal" foods with no restrictions, the programs are set up so that you do not need to be counting how many carbs your are consuming. You are eating mostly the good complex carbs, not the bad simple carbs. The carbs you need are automatically built in to the program. That is assuming, of course, that you are following the eating program they have given you and NOT eating ANY of the "bad" carbs that are not on the program.

When you're reading about "carbs" on the boards, I think you'll find most of the time, it's from members who are much further out who have gone back to making some unhealthy choices and eating those processed starchy simple carbs that got us all in trouble in the first place (ya know--chips, crackers, breads, Cookies, candy, etc, etc.)!

Take good care of yourself and remember to have fun on your new adventure. It can get overwhelming, but every little challenge ends up soooo worth it in the long run!

Ah, this is a good question since it is one I had on my mind recently. I am in the 6 month program--only my first month! Thank you all for clearing that up :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
