Just thought it would be interesting to get some numbers about band slippage. If your band did slip, please tell us about your experience (identifiable causes of slip? outcome of slip?).

Thanks,

Mslynn

Wow, so far 18% of responders had a slipped band. I hope those are representative stats! Please reply...just interested in our lapbandtalk numbers.

Thanks,

Mslynn

I hope they are NOT representative of true stats.

Yes, that's what I meant! I'm trying to delete the thread since as you posted, there is a more comprehensive poll on this already. Thanks!

After reading this poll when I went Monday for a unfill I asked my surgeon this very question. He said that I would definitely know if it was slipped if I paid attention. He said what happens is you will eat throughout the day and since it's slanted and hanging over and the food is not going through about your 3rd meal of the day when there is no more room all of a sudden you will vomit because there is no more room. Made a lot of sense and I believe I would know now. Just thought I would pass it along.

TY, beachgirl. I've been trying to find out the symptoms of a slipped band for a while. I'll be banded in 5 days. So many questions!

:bored:Yes my band has slipped. The first time it happened when I woke up from having the band surgery. I vomited because of the pain meds. They let me go home with out an upper GI. For the next 18 months I was being filled and unfilled because of the pain I was in. Finally, after being admitted in the the hospital spitting up blood, my dr. decided I must have slipped....duh. A upper GI finally proved it and I had to have surgery to fix the band.

That was July 09.

Now, just today, I went in for a upper GI because of the acid reflux I am having. The dr. says I have slipped AGAIN. I am a wreck. I have to have it fixed and she suggest a bi-pass this time to replace the band. I am scared to death. I need to do some research on bi-pass. She said I am her 1st ever 2x slip.... I do not feel good about this.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
