Had mine on May 12th

Recommended Posts

I had a 2 week liquid diet before my op. No food allowed. It was difficult but it has helped transition through my post op. I stayed overnight at the hospital and recommend doing so for at least one night. I didn't have a tremendous amount of pain in my stomach but the pain in my shoulder was horrible. It felt like a pinched nerve. I couldn't lay down or sit down for about a day without medication or a heating pad. It was the gas build up. I take my multivitamins everyday and it helps with my energy. Still can't get my full liquids or Protein in daily but I am slowly increasing. I have bad acid reflux today but feel good for the most part.

I got Sleeved on May 12th as well. I am very happy I did this. I already knew that with a Sleeve the weight loss isn't as fast as with the Band or By-pass. That's OK with me. It gives my skin time to adjust. I didn't have any nausea & almost no pain. I started this process at 294 lbs & I'm down to 269. What I have really noticed is the difference in my clothes!! I need to stop weighing myself every day & I should measure myself. I didn't & wish I had done this. I've already given away my 3x size shirts. Yay!! I can wear my 2x shirts without the buttons being stretched. LOL. I would do this again.

BTW, when I had my 2 weeks pre op diet I couldn't drink another Premier Protein shake - chocolate. I ordered their strawberry shake & love it. I also bought Protein powder from nectar & powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. Really like both. The Unjury chicken broth is good. Also, I put 1% milk in the powder shakes. Using Water made me gag. It will increase your calorie count but I can have 800 calories a day so that's not an issue. The milk will add Protein also.

I tried the Isopure flavored water. It was so bad I had to pour it out. It totally turned my stomach over. Some people love this stuff. If you buy it I would only get 1 bottle to see how your stomach tolerates it. I bought 3 ($4 each) & couldn't stomach any of those flavors.

I have also found that when my instructions say THINNED for pureed/soft foods then you should thin it. I tried avocado all mashed up & should have thinned it. My stomach felt so overloaded that it made me feel really rotten for about 3 hours. I thin everything now!! Well, except scrambled eggs.

The Unjury brand you get on-line & the nectar brand you can get at The Vitamin Store or on-line. I get my multi Vitamins & Calcium chewable from there also. They also carry a liquid Vitamin & Calcium but it's a lot more expensive than the chewables. The Vitamin Store has a lot of the products you need for any of the Bariatric surgeries. They sell individual servings of Nectar so you can try different flavors before you buy a large container.

My new motto - Onward & Downward. Good luck with your Sleeve everyone.

I also had my surgery on May 12. The first few weeks were pretty rough due to nausea. I couldn't drink enough and was constantly dehydrated. The liquid diet got old pretty fast, too. But now that I'm on real food, things are looking up. One curious thing: that first month when I was having only around 300 to 650 calories a day on liquids, I barely lost any weight. But now that I'm eating real food, in the 800 calorie range, I'm losing three pounds per week. I know I won't keep up this pace for long, but it's thrilling while it lasts.

I'm following this thread because I would like to hear from others who had the sleeve around the same time. I hope others will check in.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
