sleeve gastrectomy in Pakistan

Recommended Posts

Problem in Pakistan is we don't have nutritionist here who can deal with post sleeve patient. So manly our surgeons have to deal with it all. As I m plastic surgery resident too I don't feel much of a problem I visit my surgeon from my ward. But it's difficult here. I have been advised by my colleagues and seniors not to undergo the procedure. Etc etc..... I had a psychiatrist friend she eased me thru my decision making bcoz 2 days before surgery I was going to chicken out. I talked with her and cleared my mind. Finally was ready on Monday to get admitted for my surgery on 13th may (Tuesday), 2014. Zero and the 1st post operative day were best I slept most of the time. But when I finally pee on 2nd post op day it felt as if I'm shooting fire instead of urine. I drank alot of Water and is getting better.

Hello Hass, I wish you all the best! I really admire your tenacity to go through this knowing that you will not have a nutritionist!. There is a wealth of info on Bariatric Pal and Im sure some folks could share their nutritionist info with you if you like. You could certainly look at the "manual" I was given from Rush University Hospital here in Chicago. You are about 4 days out now- how are you feeling. Remember to walk to get the gas out and sip as much Fluid as you can.

Thanks. I would really love to get a copy of your manual. I have read alot about it. I have assisted in 2 laproscopic sleeve gastrectomy and 2 stomach reconstruction (post food tube/oesophagus cancer). Being the juniors we usually have to monitor our patients and counsel them for nutrition..... But if I would have a proper manual that would be great.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
