Suddenly have intense pain

Recommended Posts

Had my band surgery on May 6. I haven't had a lot of pain at all. However yesterday I started feeling this intense, very sharp, stabbing pain about an inch or so below my right side incision. This pain intensifies when I stand up or get up out of bed. It is especially noticeable when my fat roll (pardon the expression) is unsupported. I have actually taken more pain medication in the last 2 days than I have the whole time I have been home from the hospital. Can anyone relate to this? Any suggestions?

Is your incision still bandaged? Could just be a stitch or the glue giving way? Never hurts to call your surgeon for advice? If the incision isn't bleeding, red or hot to the touch you're probably fine?

Why do these things always happen on a Friday night?LOL Makes you want to wait till Monday to call the office but maybe he's got an email or number for emergencies?

Is it your port? I was banded on 5/6 as well and sometimes when I move a certain way..bend over, in and out of bed, stretch, I get a bad pain where my port is. Does it last a second or a long time?

I had this after my surgery where my port is. If it's where your port is then it's normal it will hurt for a while about 2 months after your surgery. But you should call your doctor to be sure.

This is not the side where my port is. It is actually about an inch below an incision on my right side. My port has not hurt much at all.

Have you called your doctor? Please do so and then follow up with is and let us know how you are doing. This could be something not surgery related and it is best not to wait when it comes to uncommon pain.

Call your doctor or surgeon now if you haven't already.

I have to apologize to you all. That intense pain actually is my port. I had my company picnic and one of the girls from corporate office has a band. She said the place where I thought mine was is actually where the band was inserted. I feel like such an idiot. Now I know what all of you are talking about with the port pain because YES it IS painful! Tomorrow is my first follow up appointment. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Wish me luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
