Has anyone required a larger quantity of liquid for success

Recommended Posts

So I had between 5.5-6 ccs and wasn't totally where I wanted to be and I went in for another fill today. Now I'm between 6.5-7 ccs. Out of a 10 cc band. My dr said I seem pretty tight so make sure I chew everything really really well. Just wondering if anyone out there has finally found their green zone with a higher amount of Fluid.

@@Wendydarling19 ah yes that was me and then I had to have a slight unfill at one point because I was not feeling well so I am now at 6. I was happier at 6.5-7 as far as feeling satisfied longer on less food.

The Dr. is right, make sure to chew well and take your time eating. The fill could take a few weeks to settle in, give it a chance but if you find that you are too tight and uncomfortable don't be shy to have a cc or two taken out.

My surgeon doesn't share the amount of the fills but I know he is of the small frequent fills school of thought. I have had seven now! I was getting worried that I wouldn't have enough room in my band at some point but they laughed and said there is plenty. So that's good. He says he doesn't want me obsessing about the amount because it's meaningless. And of course we can't really compare because some people have plication or a band that was primed at the time of surgery, etc. The question for me is whether I have satiety after an appropriately-sized portion and whether I am not hungry again for four or five hours. The closer one is to the Green Zone the more necessary it is to listen very closely for all the signals. I figure my body tells me. Getting this last fill was a big decision because I DO NOT WANT TO BE TOO TIGHT. I weighed all the options, talked it over at my six-month check-up with the LB coordinator and then made an appointment with my surgeon for that seventh one. Now I'm watching very carefully as I don't want it to all of the sudden feel tight -- or if I have symptoms such as reflux, etc. I will be right back in there getting a tiny unfill. Good luck to you! So glad we have this forum as it can be a complicated process. Have a great weekend!

You have mentioned a few times that your surgeon does that. That would drive me up a wall!! I'm glad it's working for you though! I feel a smidge too tight but generally I have noticed that the "too tight" sensation goes away in a week or two. I'm still able to eat solids and Water though which is good I just get very uncomfortable if I drink water laying down.

I have a 10cc band and i my last feeling was about 2 months ago and i am at 7.4cc and i do have good restriction but the strange thing is ive just been maintaining. Some days i go down 2-3 and back to where i was. I exercise as well so im confused. I feel if i get any more in my band i wont be able to get down anything. So I think i may just need to make an appointment to talk with them to see if im doing something wrong.

I have a 10 CC band and just got a fill yesterday morning to 7.5 ccs. I got 3 cc's right off the bat during surgery cause my band would not fit it was too big. Then have gotten 1 CC every month with going twice in one of those months. Yesterday I wanted a full CC but they told me with this much in that we needed to start doing it slower so she only put 1/2 a CC and scheduled an appointment for me to go in another 2 weeks if I need. I actually feel like the 1/2 may be it but it is actually that time of month so I am kind of thinking that the fullness will go away in a few days. I have also maintained weight wise but have lost more inches cause I have gone down 2 clothes sizes. It is frustrating but I can definetly tell a difference with this fill.

I've determined that the best use of my band is to keep me from feeling hunger and it does that for me. I never relied on fills for weight loss and just followed the instructions on diet and exercise from my bariatric center. That worked for me. I've never established a "green zone" that I'm aware of. I was so determined to improve my health that I never looked for a magic spot. I mean no disrespect, I just did the work and it worked. Relying on the band to stop me from eating more is necessary sometimes, but I find when I do that, its too late and I've already eaten too much. Discomfort follows. So I measure and weigh my food. I'm not perfect but I knew I had to do what my band can't do for me. The band does what I need it to do, so I've not gone back for any more fills. I hope you all find what works best for you.

I have 9.6 in an 11cc band. I have been in the sweet spot for quite a long time but I did have a lot of false positives along the way. I thought I had just the right restriction after a fill only for it to disappear a week later. Took me about 6 months to find the right spot.

Thanks! I did not do the measurements either and still havent but just know that I have gone down in clothes size. I have it in my head and guess I should not that I need another fill but will have to see. I need to get back on track and eat the way I am suppose to. Husband and I do a lot of eating out and am starting to notice that it is really expensive in that I only eat a portion of my food. Told him just yesterday we are going to have to start eating the same thing so I can just pick off his plate. LOL!@

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
