post op four days. starving and gassed up

Recommended Posts

Try something savory like warm broth with unflavored Protein Powder mixed in, warm tea with vanilla Protein powder, or Unjury chicken Soup protein powder. Are you on a PPI? That may help with hunger (stomach acid feels like hunger). For Isopuke - cut it 50/50 with Water, essence water, G2, or light juice - that was the only way I could choke it down. And keep walking as best you can. Good luck!

Hi - I'm from Long Island also. Had my surgery ten days ago. I was really sore for the first week, but now feel great. It was very hard to get that Isopure in. I had the grape flavored that I mixed with Water and literally nursed it from morning until I went to bed. Even then, I didn't get the full amount in, but the nurse said as long as I was getting a good amount, it was okay. The broth felt very good going down and was a nice change. I, too, felt like everything was so sweet and I just wanted a different taste. Now I am enjoying the cream Soups and taking Protein shakes. Once you get to the week mark, you will have a few more choices and will feel much better. Just make sure you get alot of fluids in. Let me know if I can help you out in any way. Good luck - it gets better.

Thanks for the fast reply. Where do i get unflavored Protein? I am on a acid blocker.

I get my unflavored protein from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Syntrax-Nectar-Medical-Unflavored-1-Pound/dp/B001I1NSUY/

you can also buy from Unjury:

http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/reg/unflavored_protein.shtml

You should also be able to find unflavored protein powder at stores like GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. Just tell the sales person that's what you want. Couple things to keep in mind -- if you are mixing with hot liquids, make sure they are under 130 degrees, and unflavored doesn't mean it has no taste -- just that no other flavor such as chocolate or vanilla has been added. It definitely has a taste! So try to add it to strong flavored things that will cover up the flavor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
