Hello Community

I am new here and almost 3 weeks post op. I truly appreciate BP and all of the positive support here. I am 37 years old and have never been into fitness. When I was younger, I would go to the gym as a chore and a necessity. St this point I want to find something that will support my weightloss and something I can stick with and even enjoy. Please let me hear from all of you who are practicing Pilates:

1. is it your main form of exercise?

2. Is it enough to promote weightloss?

3. Will it help with saggy skin?

4. Is weight training better?

Thanks all!

What I would suggest is go to a gym that have a lot of different options as far as classes, pool, etc and ask for a tour. During the tour speak with someone that's more informed in the fitness category and can explain to u the difference between weight training and cardio and what may work best for you as far as losing weight. Participate in as many classes as u can until u find something fun and you enjoy then it will no longer be a chore and stick to it. Most gyms are pretty reasonable but if finances an issue I know the YMCA have a financial aid program and there fee is based off your income and they have all of the above. Good luck and keep me posted!

So, I like pilates, but I wouldn't say I am a total practitioner nor do I do it often enough. I would say, Pilates would not be my first choice of exercise at 3 weeks out, because it has such a strong emphasis on building your core. In our case, our core muscles have been ripped. I tried Pilates a month out, and cried after doing 1 minute. I felt like everything was ripping. I am three months out now, and tried to do a couple moves last night (such as the 100) and survived. I am not coordinated so I stick to the elliptical machine and bike at the moment. I have tried spinning (which I used to love) but ended up hurting myself from doing too much too soon. My suggestion is similar to sleeved's suggestion go to a gym and try different things out. Before you join, see if they have a trial membership to make sure you like what you see before being committed financially to one place. If you don't want to go to gym yet, there are always dvds to try out. Amazon also has ones you can rent - so dropping 3 bucks for a type of class you don't like is better than purchasing a dvd that is going to collect dust.

Thanks folks for the responses. That all makes sense to me. I used to like Zumba so I will try that again as well. I like the Amazon idea for trying out some classes. I also have a treadmill and some weights at home. Im probably good for a while. If I can do some online classes or find groupon. Ive had gym memberships and it was just a waste except for taking aqua aerobics 1 per week...

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
