i went grocery shopping yesterday and was buying all healthy stuff and bought something called south beach diet and it said high Protein 250 calories after i ate it out of curiosity i looked at the nutrition information and found that ya 250 calories good protein but then noticed 30% dv sodium and 27% dv sat fat im a lil pissed i ate it under the presumption i was eating healthy was it my fault for not looking carefully at nutrition fact and just looking at front of the box or is it companies that stress the few good things and hide the bad

Yes Thunder,

I really read at the grocery store too. Sometimes I am reading and I go yikes and put it down really quickly. I'm sure that looks funny to someone casually looking my way.

I really enjoy the flavored rice, popcorn cakes. They really fill me up quick. They come in bbq (yum),chocolate, carmel, sugar and cinnamon, and graham cracker (good with a little bit of peanut butter).

good luck

edie

Frozen meals are terrible for you. There aren't a ton on the market that I would eat. I did find some seafood the other day that was really healthy. But after looking at the super market I found it difficult to buy anything frozen.

I avoid frozen foods for the most part, and I also avoid Protein bars and shakes as there is some credible information out there that taking in that much soy based Protein on a regular basis is quite dangerous.

Fresh food is the best, its as simple as that, and even better if you can source organic produce. I buy very very little that comes in boxes or packets.

Of course we all need some convenience products now and again but I really truly believe a large part of concquering your weight problem is in learning to shop and cook from scratch, around your schedule. There's no point saying you're too busy as you will never be as healthy as you want to be if you continually eat convenience foods.

Become an avid label reader, it really pays. Its like with carb foods too - check how many of the carbs are from sugar, if its a high percentage, perhaps dont eat it, if its not then its a good carb food. Check the fat, check the protein and check the salt are the main things.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
