Recommended Posts

I had my surgery about 4 weeks, ago. And today I noticed something hardish coming out one of my cuts on the right side. Has anyone else had this happen???

Could it be an internal stitch poking out?

If it looks like a bristle or thread its a stitch. If it is a big bulge could be a hernia. When in doubt always call your doctor!!!

I get it. It is normal. I remember feeling around my incisions. You swell, it hardens, and it heals. But always call your doc if in doubt. Trust your gut instinct, not us humans LOL!

I had a plastic stitch coming out if two of my incisions. One my doctor could feel but was unable to clip it back. The other surfaced a few weeks later and I could actually see it. I tried to pull it with tweezers (bad idea) and stopped as it would have reopened the wound. I ended up sterilizing some nail clippers and cutting it back. I did a search on BP and read they eventually dissolve. I hope this is the case. These wounds seem a tad more irritated than the others.

I have one poking out now too. Oh I am so glad you posted your question. I think it's a stich. I tried using tweezers and quickly stopped. Not a good idea. I am going to call my doc office today.

I had 2 stitches poking through and all my doctor did was cut it back. After a few weeks they went away. Don't be too worried

I have a hard little knot under my incision about the size of a small pea. It doesnt hurt or anything but i can feel when i touch it. Hopefully it will just go away.

Thought I'd give an update. I could still feel the hard plastic stitch that I cut back a few weeks ago. All of my incisions are healing nicely except this one. Tonight I tried to grab it with my tweezers. Remember, I tried this a few weeks ago and it started to open up my wound so I stopped and just cut it back with sterilized nail clippers. This time, the stitch slid right out. I will attach a picture. Midway there is a knot in it. I'm now 5.5 weeks out.

Holly Cow!! That's BIG!! Mine is still there and I am still scared to pull on it lol!! And it's been about 6 weeks for me.

It really isn't that big. It's probably 1-1.5 mm or so. The part that was poking out was one of the tiny sides above the knot. I'm pretty certain these stitches desolve on their own. Problem is the part poking up was irritating the incision and it wouldn't heal around it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
