I Am So Angry When People Think Surgery Is The Easy Option!

Recommended Posts

I am a newbie - so please forgive me if this has been ranted about before...
I just need to get this off my (now smaller than it used to be) chest LOL
I AM SO ANGRY WHEN PEOPLE THINK SURGERY IS THE EASY OPTION!!!!
They treat it like surgery is being lazy:
Just don't eat so much...
Exercise more....
Etc...etc...etc
Sigh! It is a tool, i need to work at it. It is not a magic wand.
It hurts even more when it is family.... feels like i am the wee fat one and they dont
want that to change, well piss off that is YOUR problem!
I made the choice for me if you can't support my decision.... well.... tough!
Thank you for saving me from burying my anger in chocolate :D X

I used to get pissed at this but then I thought about it, it kind of is an easier option which is why most of us do it. Let's just start being honest with ourselves.

The only time I've noticed myself getting offended at someone's ignorance though is when they use that idea that it's an easier option to trivialize my opinions about weight loss. As if I have no say in the matter at all. As if I didn't risk my life to lose 100+ And honestly, it's usually the fattest people who do that because their addicted to their own vices and I challenge them. And I've literally said to someone 'don't you dare trivialize my experience and hard work because you can't handle it.'

Shut them up real quick. You have to re-find your power when you make decisions like this. People are only bullies if you let them bully you.

When you lose weight, no matter how you do it, everyone will internalize and personalize your experience to them.

Don't let them get to you, they can kiss my ass. Nobody has said anything to my face, and they had better not. Until you have experienced something, you really have no room to talk. There is absolutely nothing easy about this, and some have it very hard. As "Endless" said, I didn't risk my life for nothing, and my surgery was at the advice of 4 specialists in different fields, as a lot of people have the surgery for. Good luck, and good health for the future

Good for you for coming to this site to vent your frustration about how you feel! Yes people can make you feel badly and it does speak more about them then it does about you though it still can hurt you just as much as a rock thrown at your head!

No surgery is the easy way out. We chose to do it because we have not been able to do it any other way and remain at a long term healthy weight. We take the path less traveled to be a healthier happier versions of who we are. To do all the things they say, eat less, exercise more and this time have it work for us. Many just about everyone you will find on this forum in the hundreds and thousands and maybe even hundreds of thousands...Alex how many members are there actually who have had WLS of one sort or another??

Anyway...all of those people, have done just that. We have eaten less, we have exercised, we have worn rubber suits swallowed pills, jumped on trampolines, climbed up and down and jumped rope, mountains and what have you and you know what nothing worked like WLS. Some of us...have even had more than one WLS to help us get to where we need to be to be healthy! So for those that think that this the easy way out...I dare you to come and walk a mile in my shoes and see how easy you think it is! I work HARD for every single pound I have lost and will continue to lose, and I know you do too friend!

I hate to object to you but this is the easy way out..... It was my only way out.

If you thought you were stuck on a mountain cliff and some helicopter had to rescue you or climb down the mountain cause you probably could which do you choose?

Duh the helicopter.

This is my helicopter!

ITs been the easiest thing so far I have ever done. The hard part?? Actually eating.

The easy way out would have been to kill myself instead of doing this.... This may be my Helicopter but I am being transported through a category 5 hurricane for this.... Some fun eh Bambi!!!!!

Nope sorry if you were truly stuck on a mountain or cliff for any amount of time you would be suffering and who says the helicopter would be your first choice? Maybe you tried to walk down and you broke a leg half way maybe you were already hurt by getting to be the mountain in the first place a helicopter was the only way out. Nothing is easy. Everything requires work and commitment. If it was so easy eating would be no effort you would eat what ever when ever you wanted and be the size you wish and the health you wish with out effort that is not the case. So not so easy. Maybe not rocket science for you bit for others of us the learning curve I maybe greater.

It doesn't bother me at all...matter of fact it makes me think what a bunch of illiterate people who have no clue what we go through or will be going through after the surgery. And I do take the time to teach them cause the more I teach people the more they open up to it and understand what we are going through and those people can pass on the info to others. So that's how I look at it...like yesterday I was telling my hair dresser that I did the gastric bypass and she said oh yeah be careful so you don't gain it back and I said, listen I can't even eat and this is a tool to help me reach my goals. And she thought I had lypo suction and lots do and I tell them, no this is not lypo suction, I did the gastric bypass and this is what we have to do etc etc etc...I will explain to people until I get blue in my face cause it's better to tell then not say anything. I am proud of myself.

Sweetie, you don't have a clue what price I have paid for this adventure. And even though I don't regret it one little bit I am still suffering from the complications one after another because of it from 18 months ago...

Need help. I think the people who think this is a walk in the park need help...Me I put one foot in front of the other and go forward...For me personally...If I had killed myself it would not have been this painful and it would have been over in a flash..I meant it more tongue in cheek.... okay!

The next time someone says your WLS was "the easy way out" , have them compare it with something like dental surgery or braces. They could have a mouthful of problems for the rest of their life, or they could have dental surgery or braces so that they could have a normal , healthy life . Which would they choose ?? Every single time they make a decision on ANYTHING, ask them if they chose the easy way or the hard way. Did choosing the "easy" way make them "lazy" ??? I dont think so ??? It takes hard work and dedication to make WLS work for anybody ! WLS is simply a tool, just like braces , etc. Good luck !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
