@@Antonia_megan - i too had to have nausea pain meds. See if you can get some warm tea or some G2 (room temperature). I found those to be a little easier on my tummy. Pain pills will be hard to stomach for a while. Even my smallest pill I take hits my tummy like a rock. If you can have someone find it (once you are discharged) - CVS, sells a liquid Extra Strength Tylenol (for adults), that I took, instead of another pain pill that hurt my tummy. The liquid tylenol was a life saver!

Wishing you a quick recovery and that your pain decreases quickly!! Hang in there - it DOES get better. :)

See if you can get a script for zophran. That is the only thing that helped me.

No I was discharged yesterday. And even with the nausea meds that doesn't help me keep anything down.

@@LookatmeNow34 - Don't worry about Protein yet. Worry about just getting fluids in.

I was the same way and had to stay in the hospital an extra day. My nausea was so much worse after this surgery than it was when I got food poisoning years ago. The Zofran anti-nausea that they pushed through my IV did nothing for me, but ask for Phenergan - a different anti-nausea. That one actually helped. It comes in a suppository and works really quickly. They only issue with it is that it makes you drowsy and when you are sleeping, you are not drinking. You need to be careful to get in liquids They shouldn't have you taking pills since they won't stay down. They had me do a whole day of taking in nothing by mouth (hooked up to the IV, of course), to let my stomach rest and that helped. It also helped to do the deep breathing - and I mean really deep so that it makes your abdomen rise.

I am also 2 days post-op and cannot keep anything down. I am in so much pain because I can't swallow my pain meds. Even bought liquid Tylenol and that came back up.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
