Over Mother's Day weekend I was sick with a stomach virus. I was having diarrhea really bad and could not even take a drink of Water without having severe stomach cramps. Those symptoms were typical with the strain of virus that was going around. For a gastric patient, this took a huge toll on my body! I couldn't eat anything for days. I just was able to eat again yesterday. For four days I was not able to eat. I am STILL having stomach cramps though. My stomach is still all out of whack! I need to start drinking my Protein Shakes again but everything makes my stomach cramp up!

That's rough on you. If you think you might be dehydrated, go to the doc and ask her to give you some saline. That should make you feel a lot better. Other than that, just take it easy and rest yourself and your tummy.

I was lucky, I had a stomach virus that began at 4am and was over at noon. It was the only time I've ever thrown up or had diarrhea since the surgery, and was a different experience altogether than what I was used to. Lol...nothing in there most of the time to throw up! Still, it was not fun.

Hope you feel better soon. Don't get yourself overly dehydrated.

Hang in there, don't worry about food, just stay hydrated!! Worry about food later. :) remember BRAT diet for post-stomach-bug: bananas, rice, apple sauce, toast. Even a half a banana will help settle your guts down. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
