Do I need to discuss getting liquid forms of my meds through my psychiatrist? I take several psychiatric meds. I am having my surgery in June and was wondering about this. How did others on the forum taken their regular meds after surgery? Has anyone crushed their meds after surgery? I am kinda worried about this. I am going g to talk to the pharmacist today about my meds. I am just curious about what others have done. Thanks!

I took my meds right after surgery in pill form and had no problems.

I didn't take Vitamins until two weeks after surgery and those are chewables.< /p>

I asked my surgeon about this and he told me we would work out a plan about 2 weeks before surgery. Only 1 of my pills is extended release (can't be crushed). But, it's small so I may be able to just take it normally.

I'm a little before you surgery wise, so I'll let you know what I find out from my doc.

I called the surgeon's office and asked about meds. I can take them whole. You can't take extended release meds if you have a bypass, I am glad I don't take any of those type of medicines.

I have meds I have to take. I made sure they weren't extended release. As an FYI, most meds have a short release available- that's usually what they have the first patent on. When that patent comes up for expiration, they usually cone out with an "extended release" as a way to get another patent. You can usually still get the short release. Often it's generic and cheaper!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
