eating confessions

I cannot believe what I'm reading. Isn't this supposed to be a SUPPORT GROUP??? Listen, we ALL have a hard time sticking to a 'diet', if we didn't none of us would need lap band surgery in the first place. "thenewtara" and her mom KNOW that they've made a mistake, and it was very brave of her to post it here. Tara, it's ok. You cannot undo what you've done, but you can prevent further damage. Please call your MD, fess up, and see what he/she says. We are all here to HELP you. This board should be a 'soft place to fall'... (What, too Dr. Phil???)

I think we've all cheated, Lets just get back on track and do our best.

I think it was very brave of yall to fess up and came to us for support.

Also i think some people cheat lots and are too afraid to fess up. I dont think this is the place for tough love, I think thats what we have our Dr.s for. Some of us need places like this to be truthful and get some good encourgment( spelling). I have had a diffcult time on weekends with some huge cravings going out with friends. I just keep telling myself it so much better then what i ate before. Yall should start up a race our something, see who can do the most walking this week or somethings like that. But also be each others support.

Treikalina - I think the saying is "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result"

Lets face it guys, isn't this exactly why we decided on the lap band. I for one am so tired of gaining weight after yet another diet. For me, to not get a lap band would be insane.

I appreciate the positive turn this thread has taken. I want to be able to come here for strength when I am feeling weak. We all need a soft place to land and a firm hand to set us back on course.

Thanks for sharing and caring

Amazingly, over 20 years of experience AS a nurse has taught me more than I ever learned in school.

20 years doesn't exactly mean that one knows everything and is always right, especially in the ever changing field of healthcare. However, I don't doubt your qualifications.

As another member stated, this is a support group. It's fine to provide those reality statements - very educational. At the same time, let's offer what this was made for...SUPPORT!

I'm sure you will respond. It's ok; I have dealt with worse. I have learned to just let people be (didn't need 20 yrs for that).

To my fellow bandsters,

I appreciate everything I have learned from this site.

I appreciate the support that was given to me when I felt low.

I appreciate your thoughts and opinions.

I appreciate your willingness to be open.

Most importantly, I appreciate your kindness and understanding.

Thank you, LBT...I appreciate YOU!!!!!

I think all these posts are supportive, even the more direct ones. Sometimes people do need a reality check and when someone takes the time to respond, it is because they are trying to give support and suggestions.

We all do struggle, and friend of mine had the band a month and a half prior. She makes chronic poor choices. I'm very direct..told her to stop eating pop tarts and fruit loops for Breakfast. I make poor choices..OD'd on popcorn last week...not pretty.

I never claimed I know everything. You support your way and I'll support my way. Just as 20 years in nursing doesn't make me know everything, a couple of years in nursing school does not make you know everything either. We each offer things in our own way.

Can we agree to disagree?

I have a question for Bubble Butte. Did you have your band removed lately? I was wondering how you are doing? I thought I read that you did on the complication thread. I could be wrong and if I am I'm sorry I mixed you up with someone else. I spent a lot of time reading about the downside of banding today so I was curious. I think we need to be informed of the good, the bad, and the ugly when making a decision this big.

Have the complications been worth it? How much have you lost? Are you afraid of what will happen if you take it out? I know I have lots of questions but I am pretty new at this and it seems you have been doing this awhile judging from the # of posts that you have.

I've lost 60lbs in 4 months. Yep, the complications have been worth it. I'm somewhat concerned of what will happen if I have it removed, I have mixed feelings about it.

wow! you've done great! I would be very scared of gaining it back too. Hope the medication works for you. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
