Home from the Hospital..One Day Out

Recommended Posts

Wow, Id like the license number of the truck I think ran over me. I never knew so much pain could be caused from a tiny bite of food... My tummy hates me right now :( It can only get better I say to myself. My surgeon told me I did so well I could come home the day after my surgery. Not sure if thats a good thing or bad lol.

Yea, I know exactly how you feel. It's not all peaches, and cream. When I woke up in recovery, I felt like someone had a chainsaw at my abdomen, I started screaming for them to put my stomach back. It was straight out of Chiller. Haha, All good now.

I was also out the next day! But had to go to the emergency after a couple of hours of being out. I could not swallow pain meds and the pain became unbearable. The gas pain is the worst. Then when that is all gone you feel extremely sore. I had surgery 6 days ago and still have some pain. The worst part is learning how to sip and wait for that pain to go away before you can take another sip! I'm hoping this gets better. On another note I have lost 14lbs so far yay!!!

it hurts so bad to eat or drink anything. i take a tiny sip or bite and steel myself for the backlash. hope it gets better soon. from what you said it does so i have something to look forward to :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
