I had to stay overnight as it was standard practice at my hospital. I was actually booked in for two nights but it was just a precautionary measure. As I've mentioned ad nauseum on here I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time and required morphine the first night so it was a good job I stayed in.

I stayed one night. My surgeon has only ever let one person go home the same day, and that patient was a surgeon himself. My doctor wants his patients in leg compression stockings (the ones that inflate and deflate) for the first 12 hours, to prevent clots. He also wants to see you eating liquid foods and moving around a LOT before they let you go.

Frankly, I loved my hospital stay. It was more like a hotel. No kids to look after, no dishes to do, people at my beck and call, just my own reclining bed, TV and a morphine pump at my side.

I left that night. In at 7, surgery at 9 out by 8.

I could've stayed overnight, but they said I was doing so well I could go home and we were supposed to have a blizzard, which didn't happen. I slept better at home though I think!

I had surgery 12/05 @ 8:30 am and left @ 1pm that day. Had to have my port adjusted ( it had flipped over) on 6/06, went home the same day after 2nd surgery.

I went in at 8:30AM on March 22 and came home after 7:00PM on March 23, not only because it was the standard procedure, but also I had a difficult time passing urine once the Foley was pulled for several hours. Once it finally passed, I could get discharged.

I have one night included in my self pay too, but I'm wondering how to keep this from my dad (my next door neighbor:) if I stay overnight. It's going to be hard enough to keep it a secret if I get home the same day. He keeps close tabs on us, which usually isn't a problem unless I'm trying to hide something. My kids have him wrapped around their little finger and he's over all the time to hang out with them (and me:). Don't get me wrong, I LOVE having him around. The only reason I'm not telling him is because of how much this is costing us. The only area we ever disagree in is MONEY....and he will croak if he finds out how much we are spending. The more I look at it, the more I wonder if it is even possible to keep it from him. I just don't want to deal with the issue, but maybe I'm just running from the problem. Feel free to give me advice:)

I stayed overnight and loved it.

Courtney...

I have not told my parents either. I will when I'm good and ready to. If you have insurance but it doesn't cover the procedure...just tell you dad that the insurance covered it. He does not have to know your $$$$$, especially since you no longer live in the same house.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
