I just have to say in all of this right now, I praise the Lord for this thread!!

I read so many others outside of this one. I read of people's discouragement thru their trials and times of aggrevation. I read of their sense of hopelessness, confusion, and read of their daily battles.

Then I come back to this thread. It's nothing but pure grace from our Lord that we all show our "peace that passes all understanding"!! Yes, we come here asking for support and encouragement, but in a nutshell, isn't it true that all here have a sense of peace with no aggrevation outdoing what God is doing in our lives??!!!

John 14:27.."Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." That right there, is evidence that the Holy Spirit works.

Best wishes.

KVONBE -Wow you have really done well!! Congrats. I was banded on 4/30 and will not have my first fill until 6/10. What have you been doing to keep the weight coming off? I am taking a trip in late November and would really love to see some major improvements on the scale!! God Bless!!

Did you note that I had my surgery in 2007 I am over a year out? I have considered my self to be a fairly slow but consistent loser. I generally lose a half pound a week with some more and some less. I have had a couple of plateaus as well. I try to change up my excercise routine as I get bored pretty easily right now I am doing "Walk away the Pounds" and enjoy that!!

Honestly, at first I thought it was Feb 2008 but even at 2007 time frame that is still good!! I have been wanting to take up some exercise and have been walking more - my doctor's office just told me to take it easy for another week or so. I like to inquire from everyone about their success to see if there is anything I can learn.

I have a question... I am aching in my lower back, legs so bad mostly at night. I am going to go to my primary care this week. It may not be related to the lap band but thought I would ask if any one has this problem banded 4/14. I also have thyroid and blood pressure meds that may need to be changed. I lost a pound a day for the first week then nothing for 3 weeks started loosing again about a pound a day for almost 2 weeks 18 pounds total. It was so bad tonight I had to take some left over pain med to get comfortable. I dont have much restriction I feel like I could eat anything but I count calories and stay between 800-1000 a day. I walk everyday for 30 min. and it's been getting harder because of the aching.

Sorry guys I've been missing in action. I've been going through some issues at work and haven't had time to go online. I recently had a fill and I'm back on track. I wanted to check my weight to give you an update on my progress. I think I'm doing pretty good. I was banded in Nov 2007, started at a size 26 and now I'm down to a 18. I promise to stay in touch. I know some prayers went forth and I thank all of you. The power of intercession is really something.

Thanks - I have been looking for a place of refuge for my decision. I have gotten mixed feedback from friends and family members over my decision. I have often felt like a failure that I could not do what I diets even if God was there.

The hardest thing for me will be to rely on God when I still want to eat instead of turn to him. Anyone else there?

I was banded a week ago today and I wonder if I made the right decision! I am not comfortable, can't eat anything and any hungry constantly! Did I just make a huge huge mistake? Will it get better? Will there ever be a time when I actually forget that there is this device in me. I dicided to do this so that my obbsession with food would not control my thoughts and life and now I am so hungry that food is all I think about. Help!

this surgery does the change the want to eat

It helps you cut back an you will have to give teh rest to God

I had doubts before my surgery I waited a few months before I called to set the date for the surgery after everything was oked from the insurance comapany .

I spoke to my Pastor and he said that God gave the doc the knowledge and ability to do the surgery. God also gave us medicine that we take every day (I am a diabetic and I take insulin daily)

He did not see any reason why I should not go thru with it if my husband was for it,

My insurance went thru so easy and was like it was all a sign

About 10 people in my smaller baptist church has had a form of weight loss surgery.

Some of us were just made fat and we do not have the will power to say no to the devil(food)

I have been banded for 14 months and I am very happy I would not turn back and make any different choice.

Good luck Give it to God He made us and He will protect us.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
