I I really want to get in the pool super bad and get some laps in but my surgeon suggested I wait 6 weeks before submerging my wounds. Of course I will listen to the doc but I was also thinking about waterproof bandages. Have anyone ever used them and do they actually prevent wounds from getting wet? If so I will use those so that way I'm still listening to my doctor by not getting the wounds wet but able to do what I want to do at the same time.

I think there's the issue of submerging the wounds but also the pulling and pressure you will put on them in the pool. I was a little antsy in the 6 weeks too but in the end I'm glad I waited. It went quickly.

I would have to agree with fluff about the pulling and pressure, sleeved. Totally makes sense. Probably not worth the risk. Would hate for something terrible to happen!

My doctor allowed me to swim and have 9 days after surgery. It really irritated my incisions and they got really red and irritated. I am 3 weeks out and swimming but still watching incisions and being careful. It depends on your incisions as well. IF your doctor doesn't want you in the Water I wouldn't risk infection. You may want to call your surgeons office and see what they say about Water proof bandages. That's my 2 cents.

I tried the waterproof bandaids and they didnt work at all but someone suggested Nexcare bandaids and I will test those and see!!! I cleared it with my doctor and he said to use them and make sure I am not in the pool to long!!!

Just listen to your doc. You will have the rest of your life to swim. Better be safe than sorry.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
