JanetteH 80 Posted May 14, 2014 I am only 5 days post-op but I am starving! I've been hungry since before the surgery and I still am! Help! I had the same symptom - excruciatingly hungry all the time. Never felt full even after a "meal". I know it's awful but hang in there - it eventually goes away. I was a little better when I got onto pureed food but it really went away now I eat "soft" food - don't know if its the food or just time passed. My surgeon said they'd never heard of that (not true - lots of people on this site have had that symptom - and it's not "head hunger") Another doctor admitted the surgery is "new" and although they know what happens physically, they are still charting the effects on the brain. Mine had to learn that I really wasn't hungry. Sorry you're experiencing this but it will go away over time.
StayingStrong 78 Posted May 14, 2014 For me that got better. I was really hungry for the first 2 weeks after surgery. Really had to focus on what was cravings and what was real hunger, I had both. I am 3 weeks out and mostly don't get hungry at all. Really try to hit your 64 ounces of Water or whatever your doctor told you. Once I achieve that I am so "over" eating =)
green*eyed*girl 170 Posted May 15, 2014 I am only 5 days post-op but I am starving! I've been hungry since before the surgery and I still am! Help! I was dying of hunger on day 5!!!!!!!!! I was the happiest girl that I was able to start pureed food on day 5. Lifesaver, and I was surprised how much I ate. (lot!) I am on solids now and it is much better, but I get hungry in every 2-3 hours.
Baconville 578 Posted May 15, 2014 Make sure you are hitting your Protein goal. Eating enough Protein should help you feel full I have also found that drinking Water helps a lot when I feel hungry. At this point you brain does not distinguish between hunger and thirst, so often times a 20 ounce glass of Water will do wonders to help hold off hunger. Stick with it! It will get better. Marathongirl 106 Posted May 16, 2014 I think it's pretty different for everyone. I wasn't hungry at all, but I was craving things. Just get through that liquid stage!
lynn2win 142 Posted May 18, 2014 Good luck I completely understand...I had a family member take care of me and brought all the bad foods I didn't have in my house and I ate some crackers sorry I know it was bad being only 6 days out but they tasted sooooooooooooo good ( I wanted to buy stock) to bad I am not one of those people who didn't crave food....just looking at commercials made me want to eat...if you have friends or whatever just get out of the house or throw any bad food away.....
