How much weight did you gain during your post-op pregnancy?

Recommended Posts

I am a year out of surgery and 12 weeks pregnant. I haven't gained any weight yet. I've lost 4 pounds due to severe nausea. I was wondering, for all the ladies out there who have had a child post-op, how much weight did you gain during your pregnancy and was it hard to lose the weight afterwards?

I thought surgeons say you have to wait 18 months after your surgery to get pregnant. Is that true?

Yes. Mine said between 12 and 18 months post op is ideal. The main concern is that they would like your weight to stabilize before pregnancy. Safer for baby. Less likely to cause malnutrition issues. I however I was stuck at my weight for three months before I got pregnant. Yes it was still earlier than she would have liked, but she believes my weight was starting to stabilize. I haven't had any nutrition issues yet.. Just curious how much us WLS patients would gain in a pregnancy. My surgeon said maybe 15 pounds if I stick to my diet. Baby, placenta, and fluids is all she is anticipating. But I read another user has actually gained 30 pounds. But she was also many years post op.

I had 2 children post-op. First pregnancy was 13 months post surgery; second pregnancy a year after that. I gained 9 and 11 pounds respectively. The were born 6.0 and 6.14 pounds. Both children were healthy and academically gifted. They are now ages 15 and 16. Be sure to stay hydrated, commit to your supplements, Protein and follow your doctor's advise. I'm sure you will be just fine. Best wishes to both you and your babies!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
