Jcollins521 5 Posted May 14, 2014 Hi everyone, I had my surgery 4/29/14 and I have been able to take my synthroid medication just fine but I'm super worried it isn't absorbing right. I had thyroid cancer in match 2010 and had a total thyroidectomy and it is crucial the my meds absorb. Anyone have the same or similar things happen to then? I have felt super tired allllll day long, cold intolerance ( it's been in the 100's here all week) ... I feel cold all the time and just blah. I'm worried my meds aren't working with my new stomach. DeniseNCC1701 306 Posted May 14, 2014 Jessica, definitely check with your doctor on this one, but many of us here have cold intolerance post-op, myself included. I also take synthroid. Being tired could be from a million things, especially recent surgery! You'll probably want to have bloodwork done frequently during the first year to monitor your numbers. Be well…

KarenSt 35 Posted May 14, 2014 I think the only way to know for sure is to have your TSH & free T4 measured. Also, are you on branded Synthroid or generic? Generics only need to be 80-125% of Synthroid & you can't control which generic you're on so could be like bouncing between 75mcg - 125mcg each month. That's a range of 5 different dose strengths! It's a "narrow therapeutic dose" drug, meaning small changes in the drug can mean big clinical differences. It could be that before surgery your body could tolerate the fluctuations but now you're more sensitive to them. Also, the only way to know if you're on the brand is to look at the pill. It needs to say "Synthroid" on it. Pharmacies switch it all the time. Full disclosure: my company makes Synthroid & I used to sell it 1 Zoey716 reacted to this
Carol1560 45 Posted May 15, 2014 I only use brand Synthroid .................no generics for me I was cold like you and went and got my blood work done and I dropped my med level. So make sure when you feel different, go get blood work done!! 1 KarenSt reacted to this
