So I have heard about this wonderful surge of energy that happens after wls. I am @12 weeks out and down @50 lbs, I am exhausted! Protein, fluids, Vitamins and B12 daily, still drained and lethargic. All I want to do is sleep. According to traditional medicine my thyroid levels are normal, I am menopausal. I am 52. Any ideas on what direction I should look for help?

Your weight now is close to where I started. It wasn't until I hit 30 pounds down (185) before I got a little energy. Still, I seem to have one good hour for laundry or working out, then the rest of the day is iffy. Sometimes I still take an afternoon nap, and I get at least 9 hours of sleep. I am 62 and post-stroke, so maybe this is as good as it gets. My goal weight is 135, so we can hope this will get better as more pounds come off and the improved nutrition builds up. Yeah, I don't know where that amazing surge of energy is either.

I never notice a difference after my B12 shot (and I just had my blood work done yesterday and my B12 is high for some reason). I am 2.5 years post op and I was exhausted for the first 6 months after surgery, especially right after I ate. I would have to go lay down. I don't know how people who have to work or take care of little kids do this. So I think what you are experiencing is normal. I finally started getting some energy around the 6 month mark. (I actually started traveling about a month after my surgery!) So I think you are not unusual! Good luck on the weight loss; I hit my goal at exactly one year but have now gained about 3 kilo that I am trying to get off. I am now at 139 and loving life at age 60!

BlondeBanshee,

I have days where I'm just so damned tired! Don't know why. I'm 49 and I'm menopausal. Why do things that cause women so much aggravation start with "men"?

I take all my supplements, exercise, eat what I'm supposed to and yet no huge burst of energy, What the heck? I remember about 2 weeks after surgery I felt so good and had so much energy and then all of a sudden--BOOM! The absolute tiredness settled in.

Working full time and running a household has been really kicking my rear end lately.

Kathleen

It has been suggested that I increase complex carbs so I'll focus on that for a couple of days and see if that helps.

That was my thought too. I was wondering about blood sugar levels. Our diets change so drastically that it could be with all the Protein its dropping too low. Let us know if some carbs help! Best wishes.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
