6 Weeks Out and 25 pounds gone. Normal?

Recommended Posts

Had surgery on 4/1 and I am down 25 pounds from day of surgery. About 35 altogether. I exercise 5-6 days per week in the gym usually getting about one hour of cardio. I am taking in about 800-1000 calories per day with about 70 percent coming from Protein. I track everything I eat on My Fitness Pal. I get my full allotment of Water on most days.

This weekend I had to travel and when I weighed in at the gym on Monday, I had gained 2 pounds. Not too worried, but after a steady 4.5 pound per week loss I have been scratching my head how I gained. I was disciplined on my eating habits while away. Could it be water retention or exercise related?

Thanks,

TEK

You seem to be doing very well. I would not worry or stress, one day I am up 2 pounds and by the end of the week I am down 3 or 4 pounds. Just keep getting in your protien and Water, congradulations on your weight losss.

weight gain

Water, exercise????

maybe, maybe

like you said "not too worried"

you are losing 4.5 lbs a week - thats so great!!!

2 lb weight gain???

it does happen to some at times :(

but the weight should start coming off again :)

but sounds like you are following all the rules - exercising, drinking, watching intake tracking MFP

can't get much better than that :)

btw - please stop scratching your head :o

you might lose some hair soon enough

25 lb loss since surgery :)

keep up the good work for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life

kathy

congrats

I would incorporate some weight training in your exercise regime if you can. Cardio is great, but I find I lose better if I do both.

Good Luck

Hey, Im only 2 1/2 weeks out and 28 lbs down and I think I have hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I've noticed a few days with a half a pound gain in the morning that was gone by the end of the day.

I did always have Water retention issues so I also assumed it was that. I hope you get your answers. Good luck!

Probably gaining muscle and losing fat....muscle is going to weigh more

This is a good thing!!! Muscle also does wonders for your metabolism!

I'm not real worried. And I guess I should not complain because I did not have a 3 week stall. Maybe this is it, regardless, I know if I continue my healthy habits I will continue to progress towards better health. I try to weigh myself twice a week. I will weigh again on Friday and I bet I'm back from where I started.

I'm 9 weeks post op and have lost 32 pounds since surgery. Sounds to me like you're right on track.

You had your surgery one week before me, please do tell what you are eating to get 800-100 calories in?!?

I'm stuck at 400.

I track everything on My Fitness Pal. I usually start the am with an Intek Protein Drink mixed with Skim milk. That is 240. I will typically have a Greek yogurt around 10 for another 100. lunch varies but usually some type of lean Protein weighing around 4 oz which can be up to approximately 200-250. dinner is similar to lunch. I can only handle about 4-5 oz at a time, but I get hungry about every 3 hours. I can easily hit 1000 calories but that is the upper limit. With my workouts at the gym, I am usually in a 2400 calorie per day deficit. Which puts me at about 4.5 lbs loss per week. I definitely feel restricted but I have bonafide physical hunger about every 3 hours.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
