My first and only required visit to the nutritionist is on Friday. Any advice, questions I should ask? Anything? Then I have blood work again chest xray and that is it. I got results from sleep apnea test yesterday. No sleep apnea. Yayyyy. Two more visits after next week and I am on my way in July to the losers bench. Crossing fingers. I am going to start prepping things next month. Having the house done food for my son and husband and the things I'll need ready. I've quit smoking drink tons of Water walk more and gave up caffeine. It's all I could manage these 6 months. Trying to give up sweets and breads this month.

You are doing great! Preparing yourself before surgery, giving up the bad choices for good ones, will only make everything easier in the long run for you. Keep it up!

@@jdillon

listen and take notes from the NUT

she should/probably will give you a lot of info that you need to remember

discuss Protein shakes, Water intake

telling you when to change stages

how much to eat

telling you to measure your food

so much more

after she's done talking you "might" realize your pending questions have been answered

you might think of more questions

hopefully she won't mind an email or phone call from you (i did that frequently with my NUT)

always follow YOUR NUT's rules

she is the ONLY one you should listen to (except me of course  )

you will get good suggestions from others here

fellow sleevers will tell you their experiences from their NUT

we are all great !!!!!! helpful, supportive :)

you name it and we're all "full of it"

most times they will pass along the fact the you must listen to your NUT or surgeon too!!!!

what a great lady are you!!!!

getting food and stuff ready for hubby and son!!

its good to help them now

but........

after surgery i'm sure (hoping) that DH will be there for you, other family too would be great

time to concentrate on you!!!!! :)

you are the important one!!!!!

your emotions might/will be all over the place until July

those feelings happen to many/most/all us

take care

good luck

speedy recovery

kathy

Ahhhhhhhh Thanks kathy. My hubby and I were laying there the other night talking about the up coming surgery and he said he hopes I'm not doing this for him because he loves me the way I am and Just wanted to make sure it was a decision I'm making with the right reasons in mind. He's very sweet. I assured him that it was for me and pointed out all the health issues associated with being over weight and we had a long talk. I think he believed I wouldn't actually do this but it's becoming a reality now. It's getting closer to the day of surgery and I'm not sure he is mentally preparing.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
