Need help/advice/encouragement - May 5 sleeve

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved May 5 and haven't slept for more than an hour or two at a time since. Tried using CPAP early on but that led to vomiting. Now, I vomit 2-3 times a day and at least once a night. Starts out as a cough, then I vomit. Worse when I'm laying down. Taking combination of Cymbalta and Trazadone at bedtime and vomiting that usually within an hour or so.

I go to my first pre op appointment tomorrow and will be calling the doctor again today, but just want to know if anyone else has had the vomiting and sleep issues and what may have worked for you.

I have to go back to work in a couple weeks and don't really see how that's doable right now with the no sleep/vomit cycle.

Any advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Hoping this is temporary since I'm only a little over a week out.

I'm sorry you are going through such an awful time! The surgeon will probably want to give or increase any nausea medication you are on, and maybe double your Prilosec. Lots of sleevers have sleep issues the first few weeks after surgery, and the vomiting can be controlled, so don't lose hope!! A few more weeks and you'll be just fine. :)

Time is on your side, a few weeks and you will feel so much better. Congrauulations on your choice for surgery. I have gotten better in, snoring, and my joints do not ache like they use to, my bllod pressure is down as well. All ailments before my surgery are greatly reduced to nothing. I feel so much better. You will to! Keep up the fight your physician will have awnsers for you.

If you are not on an anti- nausea medication - get on one! I took mine for a good 2 weeks. Sometimes only once a day but it kept my stomach calm. Also the soluble prilosec.

Also did your surgeon OK the pills you are taking ?

Good luck

Thank you so much for the advice and support. I know things will fall into place soon. The doctor did approve the Cymbalta and Trazadone I take at night, though I'm going to wean off Cymbalta as soon as possible now. When I called the doctor's office today they were very reassuring. I'm feeling a bit better today and each day, so I just need to latch onto that. It's a journey.... again thank you all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
