19 days postop update

Recommended Posts

At my two week appt last week and I'm down 24lbs total, 16 I the two weeks since surgery. Gas pains are gone (use a straw!! OMG makes all the difference!) and physically I feel fine. I'm doing a lot of learning and adjusting and while my soft foods weren't supposed to start until Wednesday, I started Saturday. Why? Because I finally realized the reason I was nauseous was because I was hungry! I had, over the course of the weekend, some scrambled egg, Beans, mashed potato, malt o meal, and chicken (weird because I didn't eat chicken prior to surgery). I finally felt better!! Of course you can hardly eat anything! Like less than half a cup and I'm mega full (which feels different than it used to)... But I finding hungry again a few hours later. How often do y'all eat? Anyway, it's nice to feel kind of human again :-) -MM

You should be eating 4 times a day about every 3 hours or so. Your goal should be 60 grams of Protein daily. The more Water u drink the less of an appetite you'll feel. Protein first, then other foods. Proteins will help keep u feelong fuller longer. Good luck

Yikes! 1/2 cup at two weeks out????? I am three weeks out and can't even get the required 1/4 cup. We are forbidden from using a straw ( too much air) we are not allowed any starch / veggie ( no potato until 6 months out). I am 3 weeks out and down 36 pounds. My biggest challenge is water/fluid intake.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
