lylabelle 257 Posted May 30, 2014 (edited) My mom is super against surgeries in general. So I'm in Mexico by myself. I don't mind. This is for me. I chose Mexico for a lot of reasons. Quality of doctor and care is above par than what is by my house. No hoops to jump. More hospital care. The sleeve is an art if done right. I didn't want to need a revision in years to come. I wanted a record of above excellent results. Tomorrow I am being sleeved and today the surgeon spent an hour with me and the other two getting sleeved discussing what was going to happen, how the new stomach works, signs your stomach is saying it's full and how to make sure you use your tool right long term. I've never had a US doc spend an hour with me answering questions, not rushing through, etc. Amazed so far! My 3 nights in the hospital start tomorrow. It comes down to what you want. You can't make people sorry you when they a are scared. The unknown is scary for people. This isn't a surgery that's required, it's elective and some people have a hard time accepting that. Be brave, change your life, your the only one that can! Edited May 30, 2014 by lylabelle 1 ho11ieberry06 reacted to this
jjinWA 511 Posted May 30, 2014 Lylabelle... I am so impressed with your courage to do this on your own. You are right, you need to do this for you and no one else should come between you and your health. Who is your dr and how did you research and find him. I am also impressed with him. Sounds like a first rate program that you are going through... Mexico or not. 1 hr with a patient is unheard of here in the US. I saw my dr in December for my initial consultation (15 minutes). I have went through the ins requirements ( 4 -5 months of jumping hoops) and am now scheduled for surgery on the 17th of June and I have final appt with surgeon on the 4th. Yup, that means I will have only seen him twice before I have the surgery. Again, Mexico or not, sounds like you are In good hands, literally. I wish you the best in your surgery and speedy recovery! 2 ho11ieberry06 and CandyPants81 reacted to this

johnna77 1 Posted May 30, 2014 Hello Holly, My name is Johnna, I live in San Diego. I am and have gone through the same issue as yourself. I want to tell you I have done the research in TJ Mexico as well. I also know a couple of people who have had the procedure in TJ. My family is against it even though one of my relatives did it and his life has changed for the better, with no complications. I strongly believe you should follow your goal and I am here for you for support. We can get to know eachother. I will go with you and be by your side every step of the way. I wish you luck! 1 ho11ieberry06 reacted to this

lylabelle 257 Posted June 2, 2014 I wanted to point one thing out, as I leave in the am. I'm actually a bit glad I came by myself! I think when someone is with you, you feel like you need to keep them entertained, not bored and happy. Without someone here, I don't have to worry about anyone but ME. Its been nice, if I want to shower, nap, sleep, not talk - I don't have to do any of that, no one pushing me to walk more or get more fluids down other than nurses. I actually don't think I would have liked it any other way. Look into Dr Aceves. He is a bit more, but you are in the hospital 3 days so there is 24 hour care. He does a very good sleeve (he does a LOT of revisions on BAD sleeves, so don't risk going to a cheaper surgeon, get the best the first time.) 1 ho11ieberry06 reacted to this
jjinWA 511 Posted June 2, 2014 I am so glad that the surgery went well for you. I will touch base with you in a few weeks. My daughter is waiting for insurance approval. Supposed to take the. About 3 weeks. We sent in the paperwork last Friday. If ins denies approval I will be picking your brain to get her set up with your dr. He sounds like a good option for Mexico WLS. I will go with her. She is 38 and certainly could do this on her own, but I know she would be more comfortable with the "unknown" if she had me along for the ride. :-). Having been through the surgery by then I can help her know what to expect. Would they let me stay in her hospital room, or do I need to get a hotel room for those 3 days? My husband is staying with me when I have my surgery here in WA. They provide a room that has an extra bed in the room for a support person. But that is only for a night or two. lylabelle 257 Posted June 2, 2014 They don't charge extra to be there. There is a leather chair in the room and a leather couch that they make up for the extra person as well. I'll be happy to answer whatever you need. I'm back in San Diego at the airport ready to get on my flight back to Seattle. :-)
jjinWA 511 Posted June 2, 2014 You are a sweetheart for being so helpful with your information and sharing of your experiances. Thanks so much. Mexico surgeries should not be taboo. You are testimonial of that.
lylabelle 257 Posted June 2, 2014 I'm sure there are shady places and not so great doctors. But there are also some of the best doctors in the field!
