Hi everyone!!

So I officially am now 4 days post-op. Most all of my pain is gone except a sharp pain in my upper left chest/shoulder area. I've had it since surgery.

My support group members say that gas can form just about anywhere, even in that area. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem, or if there was any advise on how to get rid of it.

Please advise, ????

Also experienced pain in my shoulders after surgery. The best thing for me to do was to get up and walk around to get the gas to move from my shoulder. I know that it is uncomfortable but it will get better in a few days just make sure to move. Feel better soon! Take care.

I had that too. Heating pads really helped a lot to ease the pain. It was gone in a few days.

Be well…

I just had my sleeve on 5/13and the worst part of it all was the pain in my shoulder. I balled for hours. I was finally able to take a hot shower today and I put a heating pad on it for a couple of hours after that. It is feeling much better and I hope it goes completely away.

I am 5 weeks out this week. On Monday 5/12 began to experience MAJOR shoulder pain. I went straight to bed after work and could not even get up to use the bathroom. Tuesday 5/13 I went to the ER within 3 hours I was in emergency surgery. There was a perforation (sp?) where my esophagus meets my stomach.

My point is to be very careful. I thought mine was gas as well. Even when I got to the ER I thought they would tell me I needed to pass gas or some other minor fix. I NEVER thought I was be going through surgery again. You know your body better than anyone.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you both. I am feeling better today and a hot pad has helped. I will definitely watch the signs my body gives me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
