Hi there, I am having my sleeve surgery on June 11. I am a lapband revision. I was just wondering I know there are others out there like me...

I am nervous for more than the sleeve. I am having a hiatal hernia repaired and having my lap band removed..

Am I silly to worry about complications?

Any contributions welcomed tia!

I'm a Lap-band to sleeve revision. My hiatal hernia was repaired when the band was placed. I'm pleased with my decision to revise to a sleeve. Complications are possible and it's OK to be concerned. I am a lucky one... no nausea, vomiting, excessive pain, etc. My surgery and recovery were without problems. Changing my eating habits has been a challenge. You will find support here for that and any other things related to your WLS.

Best of luck to you

Did any of you have difficulty with your Surgeon? I wasn't getting the help I needed from my initial surgeon, so I found another one willing to accept me. After reading many reviews, I was hopeful about getting a revision. After 3 months of meeting with the PA, I finally met with the surgeon yesterday. I had to drive over 100 miles to see him, had to wait an hour and half past appointment time, and visit was only 5 minutes long. The PA had me go get an UGI wherever I wanted, which was done at the hospital I work for. All it said was that I was able to pass thin liquids fine. Now I have to get another UGI with a facility of the Surgeons choice. First one was done after an unfill and this one will be done after getting some Fluid back in.

I have been experiencing problems with my band for 2 yrs and ready to get this thing out. If he tells me NO again, I don't know what I will do. Everything I eat or drink, comes back eventually. Sometimes I have food that sits in my stomach for hours to days. The PA told me this was due to food getting trapped in the herniated area, but the Dr didn't address that. He just said nothing was wrong and that I needed to stick to a healthy diet. This morning I had a shake and a few hours later, some of it came back up. What kinds of things were you experiencing that made the surgeon agree you needed a revision?

Some of my issues is horrible 24/7 acid reflux. Anytime I have more then 2cc's it flares up. And since I have so much acid I can't eat as there is no room for the food to go so back up it comes (and this includes liquids). My dr and I did a year of trying to empty the band and wait a few months then refill. Did a few upper GIs to make sure no blockage. After all that he have the ok fir surgery and once my band is empty I have no acid reflux at all. The many reason we did things to try and work it out was so we can document it so there would be no question for insurance to cover it. I wish you luck.

Hi there - I'm getting band to sleeve revision surgery on June 16th. No one can (or should) tell you not to worry about complications - there are risks for all sleevers, but unfortunately the risk is higher for us revisioners. We have scar tissue that has to be removed, along with the band, and generally the longer the surgery the higher risk of complications.

I'm worried about this, but I think that the benefits clearly outweigh the risks (for me anyway). I know that I can't maintain a healthy weight on my own, and my risk for a range of serious health issues will just increase over the years. Statistically, my longterm outcome looks much better with surgery than without - but of course any of us could land on the wrong side of those statistics and be the one in hundreds/thousands that has a really bad outcome. Just like - I could have a heart attack next year if I don't do it. All we can do is look at the evidence and make the best choice we can.

I wish you the best!

I am also nervous on the risk for revision but like you feel the benefits outweigh them. I'm just praying my dr can do the surgery all in one and I dint require 2 depending in what he finds out from the band once he gets in there.

There is a forum for band to sleeve revisions.I think there are quite a few here. I believe Cowgirl Jane and Diva are both revisions from the band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
