You have made a *wise* decision to get live a long and healthy long life. The diet will make it possible for the surgeon to minimize any issues during surgery. I know you will be able to do this before and after the surgery.

I wish I were as far along as you are and could get it done sooner! Best wishes.

Honestly I struggled with the decision too. If you are anything like me, you have probably had a life time of food indulgences. Really I am only 10 days out of surgery now and it is so nice not to feel hungry and to be content in the decision I made. People are eating all sorts of things around me and there just isn't the same connection with hunger or cravings. I have already started to feel free...trust yourself, trust your medical professionals, get a circle of support and get on with having fun and living. Just think a year from now you will not be thinking about what is the next diet you should go on because you will be where you want to be....good luck

I felt the same way. I was scared something would go wrong.. or that they would do the surgery and find something terrible. Pretty much everything you could worry about, I did. I constantly wondered if it was the right decision.. I felt ashamed that it had even come to the point where this was a decision I had to make.

I'd been saying I'd lose the weight since I'd gained it all 6 years ago.. it was something I thought about every day and it made me terribly unhappy. I know how to lose weight. I can be successful short term, but nothing sticks.. As much as I wanted to be a healthy weight and regain my self-confidence, I always fell back into bad habits and gained everything I'd lost back and more. I was tired of that happening.

So as scared as I was, I decided to go through with my surgery anyway. I'm a week out and don't regret my decision at all. It's been amazing so far.. Every day before my surgery, I used to focus on food. What would I eat next? Would I be "good" or give in to something I knew I shouldn't have? It was a constant struggle.. Now, food is just.. eh. I don't really have much interest in it. I'm starting to just now feel hungry again, but it's different. I feel like I could just take a couple bites and be satisfied. More than anything, I feel so hopeful and motivated.. I think this could really work! Better yet, I WANT it to work. So I'm going to do everything I can to be successful this time. The sleeve is definitely going to help. I didn't do all this for it not to.

Don't be afraid! You'll be a happier, healthier you.. and that's totally worth it.

I also was not 100% sure I wanted to do this even as I was on the table right before surg but I am glad I did. First you have to be sure you want to commit then think about the weight falling off.....believe me, it is a wonderful feeling 2 months out and 60lbs down, cloths hanging on me and no longer hungry and very motivated....I know I made the right decision. best of luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
