I'm Officially a Bandster Now!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I got banded on Friday, Sept. 24 by Dr. Ponce in Dalton, GA. It was a great experience. Everyone was so nice and helpful. I am now on my third day of liquids and just starting to realize how much "head hunger" affects me. I am not hungry at all, physically, but my head keeps telling me it's time to eat. Hopefully, that will get better.

I just wanted to let you know that I am on the road to a more healthier life. Yahoo!! I'm glad I have a place like this board for support.

Welcome edistogirl2602 - congrats on getting banded! :) I am also new here - but not yet banded. I am still in the research phase - but right now, it's looking like getting the bad may be good for me.

I'm hoping to be a bandster one day too! Please keep us updated on your progress! :D

Welcome to banded life. I wish I could tell you that head hunger goes away. The best solution that I've found for this is to keep your head busy! When I start opening that refrigerator or pantry door and peer into it looking for the snack that I don't need, it's because I'm bored or stressed. Try to occupy yourself with another activity. Sometimes it works. Good Luck!

Way to go!! Glad to hear you had a good experience. I've heard nothing but good things about Dr. Ponce!! Good luck to you, this is really the hardest part.

Ditto to what Neicy said! Find something else to occupy your time when you get the "snacking" syndrome going. I still have to fight that one. Congratulations on your banding! I'm so happy for you!:)

Welcome back! did you have the surgery at his new outpatient or overnight place...whatever it is he's using instead of the regular hospital? How did it go?

Yes, I had the procedure at the outpatient surgery center. It was beautiful and new. I had my surgery at about 1:30 pm and Dr. Ponce was finished by 2:30. I was in recovery in a bed for about an hour and then I got into a chair and they wheeled me to a recovery room. I walked around 2-3 times and drank some Water and left at about 5:30pm. Apparently I was the quickest recovery of the day. It runs in my family to want to get up and go as soon as possible. The staff was wonderful and so was Dr. Ponce and his nurse in the office. Her name is Brooke and she had the band 3 years ago and has lost 164lbs.

I would highly recommend him to anyone. They gave me lots of discharge information on my diet and everything else.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
