So, in order not to avoid nausea & vomiting I have to take 1 bite of food every 30 minutes. I mean I'm only on the mushy foods stage, but damn it takes 3 hours to eat half of a potato :(

I found when I was still healing my food had to be really wet. Maybe some gravy might help it go down better.

Since my surgery I have found that foods I loved in the past, tuna and chicken, just don't agree with me anymore. If your looking for something non-sweet how bout refried Beans?

Yes, that is not uncommon and it gets better. However, you shouldn't be eating a potato, that is a waste of your precious little appetite. Replace that potato with cottage cheese or hummus or greek yogurt or some other Protein. You need to focus on protein, not carbs. You will feel much better and it will get you in a habit that is going to last the rest of your life...protein first, then vegs, then carbs last.

They're put on everyone's plan but your dr should have told you to avoid them if possible. My dr said it should be my last resort because potatoes have very little nutritional value.

I wasn't told to avoid potatoes during mushies. But once I progressed to the next stage they came back off the list.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
