How much weight did you lose on your pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

Two week liquid diet. I did do some cheating, mostly in the first week because of food withdrawl. I stuck to it pretty well on the second week. It was awful in part because I had to be less than 1000 calories a day and stuff, I think. I was eating a lot of calories. I was really upset because I didn't loose much with it, about 7 pounds I think. If they were going to starve me, I figured I should look different at the end of two weeks. But I made up for the weight loss after the surgery. These days I rarely get 1000 calories in even, but I'm not hungry. During the preop diet I also made my husband miserable because he wasn't allowed to eat around me. Or have food I could smell. Or leave any evidence of fast food out. Or talk about what he wanted to eat. He was a bit shell shocked for a while, poor guy.

I just finished week one of my preop cottage cheese and yogurt diet and lost 14 lbs. I have another 10 days to go. I am hoping to lose 20 before I get banded.

Hey, thanks everyone for your comments.

I have just got back from having my op. I ended up losing about 10 pounds pre-op and my surgeon was very happy with that. It's been 6 days now and I'm really happy with how things are going. All my food demons seem to have gone for now and I'm finding it incredibly easy to stay on track. I feel like I had a brain transplant as well as a lapband. I just can't believe I'm the same person who started this tread!! Yay!

youtalk: My surgeon was really pleased about me being 28. He said he likes operating on people around my age because there are less or no co-morbidities to deal with and we should recover quicker etc.. So don't worry at all about your age. :girl_hug: My BMI was 43.1 pre-surgery and now 6 days post op it has just dropped under 40 so I'm inside the next risk factor range. Yay! Good luck. :)

My surgeon is really strict and WILL NOT perform the surgery unless you adhere to the pre-op 100%. This scared me into behaving myself, and as a result, I lost 24 pounds in two weeks. The first week was low-carb and the second week was all liquids.< /p>

I lost 20 pounds on my pre-op two week all-liquids diet and did not cheat - although I did accidentally swallow a piece of gum once

That's so awesome, I hope they'll band me at my lower BMI. Please keep us posted to how everything is working. GOOD LUCK GIRL!!!

I lost 17 pds in 6 days and I am so glad I did, it was my running start, plus my doc had such a difficult time doing the surgery because I carry a great deal of my weight in my stomach if my liver hadnt been shrunk down so much he may have had to do open. Plus it felt good to know I am already 17 pds toward my goal.

good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
