I know each doctor is different and has different guidelines he/she has you follow. I was just curious how long yours has/had you stay on your liquids after surgery and also how long he/she keeps you on your Protein Shakes?

Mine keeps you on liquids until you return for your two week post op appt. The shakes for the first 4-6 months. (Just a note. Tomorrow is my two week from surgery. Follow up is on Wednesday. I will see then if he will advance me to the next stage of the diet.)

My first 2 weeks post-op was strictly liquids (shakes or liquids with Protein added), week 3 pureed with shakes, weeks 4-5 soft food with shakes. Starting week 6, food as tolerated within plan (no fatty or sugary foods). Concentrate on getting Proteins from food started at week 3, I used the shakes to supplement only. What I've done since week 3 is add up my calories and Proteins after dinner, if I was short on them (400-600 calories, 70 grams of protein) I had a shake later in the evening. If I was good on my counts and I needed a snack in the evening I had a SF Jello. I hope that helps. Best wishes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
