Get everyone ! I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced pain on the left side of their abdomen. I am 3 weeks post op and I was healing fine but all of a sudden my left side became extremely tender and hot.. Is this normal? I have also come to a weight stall is this normal so early ? I have been doing everything the doctors and nutritionist have told me to do. Please let me know that's guys!!

As for the stall it is 100% normal. Your body just has to catch up a little.

As for the pain - call your doctor. Any pain that concerns you warrants a call to the doctor.

From what I was told, sometimes a nerve can be aggravated on the left side and it can be quite painful. My surgeon told me if that were to happen, they are able to do a nerve block and that will help.

I have some discomfort on my left side and I still have bruising almost 4 weeks out. My doc said blood has pooled there and will eventually go away.

The warm/hot part warrants a call to the doctor.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! The pain has gone away but I'm seeing my surgeon on the 21st so I will mention it to him and my stall has gone! I feel a lot better :) I changed up my Protein shake schedule and it seems to be working.

Thanks again everyone bless all xo

I've been having the exact same. I'm now 6 weeks post op and had a stall from weeks 3 to 5. I also had pain on my left side. It was usually sudden and like a stabbing pain. Had blood tests, X-ray and ct scan with my diagnosis. Some dats better than others or maybe getting used to it? I've heard done people say gas/constipation or scar tissue. Good luck!

Hey ! The pain still comes back for me it depends on how I sleep the night before but I'm not 100 % sure what it is yet when it happens to me I sleep on my back the next day to see if it helps so no pressure is on my tummy and it helps me the next day. When I meet with my surgeon I'll let you know what he says about it too

I haven't noticed how I've been sleeping. I'll try to pay attention tonight though I do tend to move around in my sleep a lot!

I've had a nightmare. My stabbing pain has developed into unbearable steady pain in the past 2 days. I spent the drive to the hospital screaming as if I was giving birth. Local hospital couldn't so anything (after 7 hours) so sent to my surgeons local hospital. Being admitted soon (I hope) and will see surgeon. He says he expects it is a kinked or twisted bowel. Will update when I know more.

Just discharged. Apparently a permanent stitch was poking and scratching my insides. Another five holes, but otherwise just happy not to be in pain anymore!

Oh good to hear. Thank God you are out of pain. I was reading all of your posts and am happy that you are relieved. Nothing is worse than a constant pain. Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
