Locking up my scale for now

Recommended Posts

My surgery was on 4/30, so I am only 10 days post op. I've noticed how people have done in the first few weeks and was amazed at the huge weight loss. This is not the case for me. As of yesterday I had only lost 4.4 lbs, and this morning I am back up 1 lb. I have followed my Dr's Pre Op diet and now Post Op diet to the letter, so now I just need to sit back and trust the process.

I did lose 51 lbs since November, which was when Pre Op dieting began, including a 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery, and I am ecstatic about that! This also means I didn't have a lot of Water weight left to lose during Post Op, but it sure would be nice to see a big jump in the scale and feel that rush!

My plan is to not weigh myself until I go for my 2 week appointment on Tuesday. After that, I'll weigh myself every 2 weeks. Time to focus on how I feel and not the numbers!

Hope everyone is doing well!

I have lost a total of 58 pounds since last October. Having said this, I have only lost 25 pounds since my surgery on 03/05. I am hoping that by losing it slow, the weight will stay off this time. Congratulations on your weight loss.

I came out of the hospital 11 pounds more than when I went in. They pump you full of fluids. It took me almost 2 weeks to get that weight down. 4 pounds in 10 days is nothing to scoff at either. That's 2 pounds a week... Add that water-weight from the hospital, I am positive it's more than that.

I too was a chronic weigher. But it let me know right off when I needed up my fluids and exercise. Just don't let it ruin your mental state. You are going to up one day, down the other. So just stay focused, follow the plan your Dr chose for you, and you will be a success :)

Check with your Dr or NUT. My personal decision will be to not have any bread or carbs that don't come naturally in foods because carbs are my weakness and I don't want to be back on that roller coaster again! I've been carb free for over a month and I'm not turning back! Protein, protein, protein!!

Congratulations on your surgery and your 50+ lb weight loss! It's hard to not compare ourselves to others, but we really have to remember that we are all different and our weight loss patterns vary greatly. I love what you said about "trusting the process." If you follow your Bariatric Eating program and are dedicated to working on your new lifestyle, the weight WILL come off. You will enjoy your weight loss "adventure" so much more if you are not stressing about a number on the scale from day to day. I am three years out, and I have always weighed every Tuesday morning because that was the day of my surgery.

Speaking from experience, you have so much to look forward to in the "feeling the rush" department. For me, it's still hard for me to wrap my head around how much my life has changed for the better! One more thing--please try to get that word "ONLY xx pounds lost" out of your vocabulary--EVERY pound lost is a victory!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
