I have a question fellow bandsters, all of my incisions have healed except for the main incision where my port is. It is still very swollen there and I'm wondering, does this swelling eventually go down? It's in my chest area on my right side and I am hoping that this bad boy is gonna sink into my body eventually. The port shouldn't be noticeable right? Help!!!

It's usually the last to heal and can take up to 3 months. Sorry, it will probably always protrude since it's weaved into your abs and it is thicker than skin.

Good to know, but I hope won't protrude this much. It is very noticeable!

Heather, I'm two weeks post-op and my port is very swollen as well. When I lay on my back it protrudes out in a hard mass. I had my first follow up this week, and my doc said it is an underlying bruise and also since it is sutured into the muscle it will take longer to heal. He seemed to be not too concerned about it, and told me it will just take a little more time than usual for the body to heal it. Hope this helps :)

I actually went back to my doctor today. He finally got his eyes on my incision which I was thrilled about since I now have a rash. I was pretty bummed because he told me at first that he thought my port might be infected and that would have meant that he would have had to take it out today. I was in total shock!!! Luckily once he saw it, he said that the hematoma has caused the bleeding, swelling and bruising. The bandaids have caused the rash. I have to wait a little longer for my first fill, but I will take it considering what it could have been:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
