Help - Question

Recommended Posts

Hi, Ij ust found this site and have a question. I probably do not have a true complication but need help. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and I still have a feeling of pressure (or tightness) in the midchest area. It is worse today and very uncomfortable. I have had a few episodes of anxiety attacks wondering if I did the right thing by getting banded. I am really scared of PB'ing (have not done that yet). Some days I feel fine, and other days (like today) I just want it out so that I don't have to worry.

I am also pretty sore still in the port area. I usually do not have anxiety, so this is pretty frightening.

Thanks,

Teri:think

I'm so sorry you are having problems! I'm almost four weeks post-op and still have tenderness in the port area--I think that is normal. You should probably call your doctor about the tightness in your chest. If nothing else, he could put you at ease if that is normal. Good luck to you--remember you did this to be a healthier person and you will be! Hang in there.

I would call your doctor regarding being tight in the chest. It is probably swelling or something. It also may be a sign of your restriction too. Do you get it without even eating? The sore port is common. I had that. Julie

Thanks for your help. Yes- the tightness is there even while not eating. I am able to drink and had some applesauce this morning. I will call Dr Kuri's office.

Do you think this feeling is normal?

Teri

Teri, I have heard this condition from several patients after being banded. It just didn't happen to me. Sometimes my restriction will show in the chest, but not very often. You are probably just swollen.

I could be gas. I just found something the other day that might help you out; gas x makes little strips down (instead of pills/chewables). If you take one and it doesn't do anything for you, it wont hurt you to have tried...

OMG I feel the same as you do about the anxiety attacks and the same thoughts about the band. I have been banded on 3/1/06. I have felt fine from the start but sometimes I feel stress about the band. About the unknown, I have not had a fill as of yet. My date is for 4/27/07 for my fill. I am so scared of all the scary stories I read, about problems with fills, pb's food getting stuck. All this stuff has not really happen yet. I might never. The more I read the more I worried. For my fill Iam going to ask the dr. to go really slow. So maybe these things wont happen. Never had anxiety attacks before the band. I didnt know what was happen to me had to ask a friend what was wrong, could not believe what she told me. I hope this stops, maybe after my fill I will se there is nothing to worry about. well good luck to you thanks for listening

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
