I waited 6 mos. Nothing carbonated...mainly coconut Ciroc and diet cranberry...maybe a little Malibu every now and then. ;) Haven't had any issues, but really don't drink to excess.

I can't recall ever being told I couldn't drink alcohol or carbonated drinks. I'm not much of a drinker so it was at 6 months that I tried a drink - I had some old Tequila from pre-surgery and mixed it with some Crystal Light lemonade. It was only about 2 ounces, but I was buzzing pretty quick! Since then I've drank beer and Mike's Hard Lemonade, but I drink them very slowly since I didn't know how fast the carbonation was going to fill me up. And I pour them over ice to get rid of some of the carbonation. I had no problems with any of them.

Every one is going to tell you something different, you should check with your doc or nut before you do.

My Doc said when I got to 4 1/2 months I could have ONE oz of wine (no beer or anything with bubbles) and to try to keep it no more then every few days. This is not a problem since i am not a big drinker.

When I go out, I order a sample of whatever wine I want to taste... Normally they don't charge you & and you get about 2oz... I don't do this to be cheap, but I don't really want to waste a full glass when I cant drink it all. I felt so hammered after having that little bit of wine... Just be careful, drinking will effect you differently now with your new tummy!

I am going on 4 weeks post op. I am sitting at a restaurant now. I just had my first drink. Shared with my husband. I had 3 sips. That is enough. I wouldn't want to drive!!!! 3 sips.

5 weeks. I'm sure I was told not to but it was a Bruce Springsteen concert and i just really wanted one. I had patron over ice. I sipped it for a few hours. Never did finish it. Did not get drunk, or even buzzed. But I did feel dehydrated considering it was such a small amount. I'm 8.5 weeks out now, had half a margarita on cinco de mayo. Just get so full so fast that I can't ever finish anything. I logged it all in MFP. It's an utter waste of calories. But sometimes, on the right occasion, I'm glad I can still have a little.

I didn't think about diet cranberry. I've been looking n Pinterest for low carb drinks/mixes. I love margaritas. But so many carbs. I found a recipe that uses honey, lime juice and tequila. Still has quite a bit of carbs though. Maybe I can concoct something with cranberry.

I just want to relay a topic I recently heard at a bariatric support group. The person in charge

of running it talked about a co-worker's experience, who was a nurse. She had very little-- 2

small glasses of wine. She drank this on a Friday at a BBQ. On Monday she went to work, and

someone smelled alcohol on her breath. She was fired. The bariatric doctors had to submit medicaljournal articles to help her get her job back. So, be careful!

Had a little of peach ciroc a few weeks ago. I'm 5 months post op. I didn't really get buzzed, nor did I get sick.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
