my first and last dumping experience!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on February 3 and so far everything has been smooth sailing. my doctor is one of the strictest when it comes to foods.. No breads, Pasta, peas, or high carbs for one year. he told me at my 12week check up he likes for his patients to lose as much excess weight as possible that first year. so far I am down 60lbs and just 2 pounds to go before hitting wonderland. I guess with all this and feeling comfortable with my sleeve a loving the new me ...is how I came about my first dumping experience. I was eating a baked chicken leg w/o taking small bites and downing it quickly! that's when it hit like a brick wall! I That sick feeling..I stopped immediately and sat for a minute hoping that feeling would go away. My hubby looked at me and could see the distress in my face ..or in other words he said I looked a little green. I walked around for a few minutes realizing it wasn't going to go away unless I visited the bathroom! Sure enuff that entire meal came back up. it was a horrible experience and one I don't want to revisit...especially if out in a restaurant.

so I guess the moral of this story is, no matter how comfortable you get with your new friend it will turn on you in an instant if you don't follows its rules...Eat Slowly and,,,Small Bites! :)

I still love my friend and couldn't be any happier!

Moonlite is right. Dumping usually involves a dump LOL. Regardless of the terminology, you learned a very good lesson today. I still lapse from time to time and Sleevette puts me in my place.

Dumping=instant sweats, shaky feeling, you run for the toilet and everything you just ate comes right back out the other end.

And never say never. I'm 7 months out and just last weekend dumped off of fruit flavored Greek yogurt. The farther out I get, the more I dump off of ANY and ALL forms of sugar.

I agree, sounds like u just overate/ate too fast rather than dumping. There's a big controversy over whether sleevers actually dump or not. My dr says no. But the first couple months after I was eating normal food again, I could not eat ice cream without breaking out ina sweat, having major stomach cramps and diarrhea. Thought I'd pass out from dehydration that first hour. Now, I'm good with 4 bites or less.

Dumping usually happens (rarely with a sleever compared to a bypasser) with too much sugar or too much fat at once. Not a normal meal, but just too much of it. U ate too much and u vomited. Live and learn.

Good luck!

Wow thanks Marfar7.... This is why I love this site!! I ate a pc of LJS fish and omg I was sweating, cramping, bent over, my navel seem like it was abt to pop out my stomach..this lasted for an hr finally i had to run to the ladies room for abt 45 min, once i used the ladies room all the pain/everything stopped...i didnt know what was wrong or what was happening but I guess it was the grease, I hadnt had any grease in abt 2-3 months.

i dont think there is much doubt about the fact that people with vsg dump from sugar and fat. just because a doctor says doesnt happen, doesnt mean it doesnt! its much less than with bypass, but it certainly happens.

I have dumped so I know sleevers dump regardless of what anyone says. It is rare but it does happen. Yuck.

I dumped before I was sleeved. Anything with white flour (baked goods) often made me dump. So maybe there is a genetic/predisposition towards it that some sleepers are more susceptible to.

I did as well too. Post op its a little better than before I had my surgery. So I'll take it.

To the othe poster above that said sleevers dumping is controversial...its only that way if you don't believe we are supposed to have it. Most of the centers for excellence bariatric centers have the data showing sleevers do infact dump. Its a proven fact that we do it. The drs or surgeons sometimes dont want to admit it because there is no real medical reasoning behind why some of us do it.

If u look at wls websites, ull see there's a controversy. I BELIEVE in dumping, personally. Why I told the story about ice cream. My dr is the one that said that sleevers don't dump, not me. I believe that it does happen. Not sure the science behind dumping in a purely restrictive procedure, but I've had it so I know it happens.

Just wanted to make sure everyone knew I wasn't arguing with dumping

I think anyone can have a dumping episode regardless of surgery or not. I think.....not sure.

Ice cream makes me feel terrible about 10 minutes after eating it. I always thought it was the sugar but I get hot, sweaty, and dizzy.

Your story reminded me of my first gallbladder attack, it was after eating a damn chicken leg! Haha!

I have not had surgery and I occasionally have the dumping syndrome. Its awful!! I almost faint from it. Fortunately it hasn't happened in quite some time. I hope that doesn't mean I'll be likely to have it after surgery--uh oh....

I can't believe it's even a doctor controversy considering how many sleevers have this. I can't even LOOK at ice cream without shuddering because I got dumping from it twice before I connected what was going on. I don't even like sweets now because I know I'll get the sweaty I'm-gonna-die feeling after two bites.

I have a band, so no sleeve but I "dumped" for months before my dr realized I had celiacs disease. Gluten can cause that in many people.. But as far as the sleeve, my best friend has it and "dumps" with any form of sugar. I'm in the process of switching to the sleeve and I suppose time will tell if I'll have that issue too.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
