I have been reading about people eating rice, but I tried it the other day (with sauce) and have been having problems ever since. Have finally resorted to a liquid diet for a couple of days to see if that resolves the problem. Anyone else attempted rice? If yes, was it a successful experiement?

I did eat a little before starting to get fills (at an Asian Restaraunt). Now I would not do it on a bet. WASa is correct, there are much better food choices than white rice, most breads and Pasta. Who needs filler? I would eat more veggies or low sugar fruits than the white carbs. JMHO

Obviously the whole could/should argument is prob something you already know. Although I do stay away from most carbs, I eat sushi once in a while. I have no problem with rice as much as stuffing the whole piece in my mouth. I think its not the rice itself, its that we tend (or at least I do) to eat too much of it too fast as its very easy to do.

I did 1/4 c. of long grain and wild rice once and had no problems.

One of my lean cuisine Entrees had a little bit of rice and it didn't cause a problem for me. Today I bought those little Success Rice cups that you just microwave. I got the wild rice and brown rice. We'll see how it goes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
