Lovenox injections after surgery!?!?!?

i was so scare of these shots too... but believe me they are so easy and do not hurt at all... my 12 year old daughter also would give them to me... dont worry about them its so easy . the way they work its hard to do them wrong.. the needle going so far in and then when it done springs back inside... im a babe went it comes to shot and i was fine doing it... good luck

I'm pre-op but I know I will have to have them, and I have done them before... The needle is tiny so you don't even feel it for the most part... You can feel the medicine going in,but it's not bad at all. You do bruise after...so don't worry if you notice bruising even after you stop the injections. As far as giving yourself the injections... Once you do it once, it's easy... That first time seems odd trying to stick yourself, but once you do it once or twice it's a piece of cake!!!

My doc has a pretty strict DVT protocol, so he requires lovenox injections at home after surgery. I have a lot of patients who use lovenox, and other that the bruising, it's not bad. It's a sub-Q injection, so the needle is relatively small.

I have read all my post op instruction several times. I have not read one mention of LOVENOX injections. It is an anticoagulant used to prevent and treat deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, and is given as a subcutaneous injection (by a health care provider or the patient).

par1959 The reason my surgery team requires them is because they want to prevent blood clots after surgery. I don't mind it but was just scared of giving them to myself. You know the needle and all---just kinda freaks me out a bit, but the feedback Ive gotten has been wonderful, THANKS EVERYONE for calming my fear!

I had to do them for 10 days. I did in my belly for 5 and back of my arms for 5. Small punch lots of bruising. Did them twice a day. It goes by fast !!
