So I had the surgery April 22, I ended up losing almost 30lbs already I was hospitalized on steroids and iv for swelling. I can do Soups and drinks, but mushy stuff how do you know when your full or if it just won't go down. I'm thinking my portions are just out and my Water intake high now finally(I could barely move 7 days after surgery). But I don't know anyone who has had anything like this done.

I am on soft foods and I had my surgery April 1st. You don't want to go for the full feeling and if you get to the point where it does not go down then you have ate way to much. You want to stick to the portion size the doctor told you and within the daily calories. My doctor wants me between 600 to 800 calories a day and no more then a cup of food. For example at lunch I just ate a 2.5 oz pkt of tuna with light mayo and applesauce. I am satisfied but not full. Hope this helps.

We don't shoot for full, we shoot for satisfied. But, at this stage you may not have any restriction so you may be able to eat anything in any amount? Till your band is adjusted properly(could be up to 6 fills), you're still on a diet if you want to lose weight.

You'll know your food won't go down when you can feel a large golf ball size bolus of food directly beneath your sternum and your nose is running and phlegm(slime) is gurgling up your esophagus.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
