3 weeks post op and Stressed

Recommended Posts

Hi- I had my sleeve on 4/17. I've lost about 20 lbs since surgery, 30 pre-op; 50 total since December.

I was losing a pound a day but now the scale says I've gained a pound. This isn't possible because I eat less than 800 calories a day.

I can eat 1/2 bowl of Soup and I'm stuffed. Eating sucks. It's uncomfortable, painful and I hate it. Drinking Water isn't refreshing like it used to be. The constant sipping is annoying. And try as I might, I can't ever get above 40oz a day.

I'm exhausted everyday even though I sleep 12-13 hours a night. I am constantly dragging through work like I'm

Is this normal?

I feel terrible

I had my surgery 4/21 and as of today I've lost 19lbs since then. I thought I would have lost more doing the liquids but average about a pound a day. The first week I felt a lot if discomfort when sipping. It's 100% better now. Just take it slow! You can do this!

A few things, you are probably dehydrated. I found early out warm herbal teas were a lot easier to drink than plain Water. Also the crystal light or G2 was easier to drink. At 3 months out I am just starting to get comfortable drinking Water.< /p>

Secondly, you WILL fluctuate in weight up and down as your body retains fluids. I kicked my rear at the gym yesterday and am literally up 3 pounds this morning. I know it is because my muscles are all swollen and retaining fluids. No biggie... It's not the place we are but the place we are going that matters. This journey is a long one... And cannot be measured in instant gratification terms... For your sanity, don't do day to day weigh ins... They torture everyone. Go weekly at most, and even that you will still have stalls and fluctuations.

You will feel better when you take in enough fluids, I recommend making that your top priority right now.

Good luck!

Right now, the scale is not your friend. Remember, you are still recovering from major surgery and that your body is trying to figure out what you just did to it.

You're right, with the number of calories you are eating, it's not possible for you to have gained a pound of fat (remember, a pound of fat is roughly 3500 calories).

When I was early out, like you, I had my husband hide the scale and he brought it out once a week. Weighing every day was not good for me - it created too much anxiety.

Right now, you need to focus on getting in your fluids and follow your doctor or NUT's plan. Don't let the scale derail you.

You got this!!

@McButterpants my exact words....lol

I found room temp or warm/hot beverages much easier to tolerate in the beginning as well

It gets much better. The third week was the hardest for me.I don't know how people go to work so quickly. No wonder you are tired, your stomach is still healing and your body uses a lot of energy to heal. Hang in there. I'm almost at six weeks and I feel much different.

It takes time for your body to heal, but it seemed like everyday it was a little easier to eat and drink.

I would try Gatorade 2, that way you get electrolytes too.

You guys are the best therapy on earth! Thank you so much. I feel better knowing this is normal.

I'm going to drink tea and hide the scale.

And maybe sneak a 20 min nap on my lunch break.

I missed the part that you were back at work...when did you return? You may have gone back too soon...your insides are healing even tho your outsides only have a few little scars... I was out for 3 weeks and then went back for half days the first week... much easier transition for me... good luck

You are healing chica! Its a process and things will take time! I am a month out and have been stalled for the last 2.5 weeks. I was frustrated as heck but my body needs to find its own way. Patience is key...SERIOUSLY!!

Why are you sleeping so much? When i sleep more than 7-8 hrs i am draggimg. There is such a thing as oversleep. Trygto cut back and start exercising. Just walk and do some light weights as long as you aremt pulling on ur stomach muscles. You should be onto soft food by now. Try some refried Beans or mashed potatoes. Eat slow and enjoy. I sipped too but you can now start trying a little bit bigger of a drink and start embracing and enjoying your new life style. Alot is memtal. I am almost 5 months post and doimg great. You will too!

I feel the same way! I'm only 10 days out though. I've been back at work for 3 days and I'm dragging. I'm not hurting at all which seems weird but I am exhausted. Thanks for posting these responses. Maybe we are expecting too much of ourselves too early.

I know exactly how you feel! I am 3 1/2 weeks postop and I just came off a 12 day stall of not losing weight and in fact I gained a pound during that stall. The Dr and Nut had warned me this would happen. Keep in mind that your body is in shock mode right now with all the weight you lost in a short period of time. You have lost 20lbs in less than a month, thats an awesome accomplishment! You will come off your stall as I did this past Monday, since then I lost 3lbs this week. We all go thru the stressful stall. As long as you eat right, you have nothing to worry about. As far as the Water goes, it will take time to reach your daily intake dont stress about it. My first week I bareful got 16oz of Water daily. So dont worry you will get there. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Focus, Relax, Smile and keep your eye on the prize. Good Luck on your journey!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
