How quickly did you all go back to work? Right now I'm planning on going back 7 days post op. Is that too soon? I do have a job that I stand and move quite a bit. Thoughts?

Hi I went back 8 days post op and feel great but I sit all day and get up to move around when I want. I was so surprised how well I fell!

I went back to work 11 days after to a desk job and had no energy the first week. 7 days and a standing job may be more difficult. Good luck

I went back to work yesterday after 12 days off. I have a pretty hectic job. I was wore out last night but am glad I did come back so I could get into a routine with eating etc. I probably could of came back after 7 days but would of had a hard time getting my fluids in.

I was off four weeks, and I have a desk job. I was able to put in hours from home which helped. But I was so uncomfortable. Sharp pains on my left incision side even when I went back I don't think that's the norm. But weirdly the first day back to work driving and bending were awful I almost cried from pain ... But the next day I was finally better. So maybe I took it too easy and needed to push through. Or maybe my body was ready to be healed finally.

I went back to work after 2 weeks. My job is mostly a desk job. I felt fine in terms of pain but I was still pretty exhausted at that point. My first two days turned into half days because I just didn't have the energy to stay all day. I went home and slept!

I did a half day after 8 days then had a weekend off, then hit it full-time at a desk job on the following Monday morning. I was wiped out the Tuesday evening but with a good sleep, I was fine. Bottom line is that you will likely be tired for a week or two, I think more from being put under than the surgery itself.

Take it easy as you can,

I had three weeks off and wishes I had taken four. The large incision was painful and in tired easily on the liquid diet. Take as much time as you can.

I'm taking off 4 weeks. I'm on my feet all day. Day 3 post-op, tired of being in the house already.

i have already put in for 4 weeks off. my doc told me to plan for at least 3. i am a nurse in a VERY hectic busy environment and once i punch back on the clock, there is no 'taking it easy' or 'modifying' the job for me. so i'm making sure i can handle the work when i get back.

plus, i don't really want to go back while on just fluids. i have heard from others that they were weak from surgery and a little fuzzy in the head from not eating, and i need to be able to make critical decisions and constantly multi-task.

I was back at work 4 days after surgery and did just fine. I'm a nurse and work nightshift..I'm on my feet a lot but that felt better than sitting anyway. I have pretty great coworkers so they did all my lifting and pulling for me at first, but now 4 wks out I'm able to do everything with no problems.

I think everyone is different as far as pain and recovery. Do what's best for you! For me, going back to work and being active was better than staying home.

Everyone is different, for sure, but I had one night in the hospital, one dose of pain med at home, and was shopping at the mall 5 days later for several hours, walking slow. Felt like a million dollars. Just make sure you do not lift anything!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
