I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op. My family is having pizza tonight. Do you think I could handle a thin crust slice of pizza? I've been able to tolerate crackers and the 100 calorie pack Cookies. Could I handle pizza?

I was banded on the 20th of March, a day after you and I ate some chesse quesadillas and well lets just say I will not do that again. It took a very long time to go down and it was very painful. How much have you lost so far?

Carmel,

I've lost 22 lbs. so far. I'm sort of stuck at the moment. I need to start exercising which is always a problem for me! It's hard to get the motivation. I haven't had a problem eating any foods yet. Everything seems to go down very well. I really don't have much restriction. How about you?

Congealed cheese + carby crust = don't do it! I just envision a big Gummy ball of chewed crud stuck in your new pouch. I think you are too early out for that. If you insist, only eat the topping (the cheese and meat, etc.) and leave the crust. Make sure your bites are about the size of a pencil eraser.

If you do it, take very small bites and chew really well. I am banded perfectly and I can typically eat one piece without the bigger crust.

I can eat pizza easily if it is thin crust. I have been eating it since I have been on solid foods. Just chew!

So it's been a while for me, but I saw Berry's name and knew he always had interesting threads.

So im glad to see other people are like me. I to just had it done and do not have a fill. I am just now starting to try more and more food. I have eaten pizza already, but bread and red meat does not work. I can eat hamburger meat and chicken no problem. Now I am finally going to get my post op check up tomorrow. So I have no idea how much weight I have lost.

I was worried that I was able to eat food with no problem. I know that will change when I get fills. But im very glad to see others are eating just like me.

I'm nervous to try the pizza because I don't want it to get stuck! Like Jubjub, I can eat hamburger meat and chicken no problem. I have had roast beef & ham lunch meat with no problems either. I've really wanted Pasta but don't dare and won't try bread either.

I'm less that you in post op time and I've had no problems eating solid foods. Just chew and don't drink and you will be fine.

I still don't have a problem with having to chew a lot. So far I can still chew as normally as I did before surgery. I'm sure that will change once I get my first fill !!

Go for it! Take it easy and leave the crust alone. I was banded January 18, have had 2 fills and can still eat pizza. Difference is I usually eat one bite of thin crust pizza and then eat the rest of the toppings off that piece and quit! Used to I could eat 3 pieces and another later on in the evening after we got home. Be careful, chew well and good luck!

Ask yourself why you would even WANT pizza? You didn't go through surgery to eat crap like that. Since I am going to eat only 2 ounces I want it to be the best for me. With 15 year old twins, pizza is part of my life. If they order in I use the chance to steam a nice Alasken crab leg for myself. At the parlor I order a fried chicken breast and remove all the skin and have it with a small salad. Once you get your mind around it....you would not want to pass up some delicious and healthful lean Protein for carbs and fat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
